If there's anything that needs to be debated it's the color of this dress. Is it blue and black or white and gold? The Internet is divided about it right now and its gone viral.

I see white and gold. I see how blue can be argued but how can black be argued?

Weird I see the exact opposite. The dress plainly looks blue and black. The black part has yellow lighting overtones but it's clearly black.

I just wish somebody that knew what they were talking about would tell us why we're seeing different stuff. Bill Nye needs to get on this.

Maybe it depends on race.

As half and half, I'm basically 100% confirmed to see white and gold.

I see white and gold. I see how blue can be argued but how can black be argued?

Someone analyzed the colors using a computer. One part of the dress is on the literal line between orangish-yellow and black and one part of the dress is on the literal line between white and blue.

People see different colors because it's on the line between each, and people's brains might interpret colors ever so slightly differently. Also, the color you see can also depend on the background or whether you are seeing only part of the dress or the whole thing, or whether you see a zoomed in version.

Personally, I see white and gold when zoomed out, and sometimes blue and black when it is a more zoomed in image.

Um, what is this dress, and why are we talking about it? Is it relevant in some way?

Regardless, I see blue and gold/brown (I'm guessing the lighting affects the goldness going down the dress where it looks brown).
My work here is, finally, done.

It all depends on the angle of light that you are looking at the image. When I look at it directly, I see gold and white, but indirectly or from an angle I see black and blue.

I heard that if you change the brightness or look at it at different angles it changes color.

For me it hasn't. It's always been black and blue. Plainly. I'd think people were nuts if they told me it was gold and white if this werent some strange phenomenon.

As I said in my previous post.

"It all depends on the angle of light that you are looking at the image. When I look at it directly, I see gold and white, but indirectly or from an angle I see black and blue."

Basically, different light rays are emitted in different directions. Thus, based on the direction you are look at the picture, the light colors (or lack thereof - black) will be different.

This same principle applies to the sky color. It is blue because blue light is refracted down towards the Earth's surface, while all of the other wavelengths of visible light are refracted into space or not at all.

The dress is blue and black, but the lightening and focus of the picture makes it so sometimes people's eyes have to compensate, causing it to sometimes appear white and gold.

That is just it, it is a not-well-known phenomenon.

Niether. It's brown and a light teal. The light teal looks both white and blue depending on the eyes and lighting. The brown looks golden depending on the same variables, or black.

The best explanation I could find for why there is such a big difference in opinion over the color of the dress is that the really sh*tty lighting of the dress causes the brains in some (apparently most) people to overcompensate for the shadow on the dress, causing them to see White and Gold even though the dress is actually Blue and Black

^ In the picture, A and B are both the same shade of Grey (You can prove it by covering up all but a little bit of each tile), yet B appears much lighter than A because our brains believe that it is in a shadow from the Cylinder, and apparently it overcompensates for the actual color of B as a result from perceiving that it is in the shadow.

So our brains are pretty much just f*cking with is all

Don't feel bad. Lots of guys need to overcompensate.
