A Czech fellow has proclaimed as a new state a No Man's Land between Croatia and Serbia, called Free Republic of Liberland. Time for libertarians and anarchists to register for citizenship.

Apparently they think they'll be as prosperous as us in 10 years, LOL.

We aren't really Libertarian BTW... We have subsidised housing, progressive tax, minimum wage, etc.

I sort of hope the guy who took the initiative is not being serious. There is no way this piece of land can simply be claimed by someone.

This should be on the politics forum.

They do sound much more serious than other micronation attempts. They are processing actual citizenship applications and not selling titles of nobility at hefty prices to gratify random people's egos. They have political parties and are putting together a government. They're even trying their hand at their own conlang.

It seems to be a pathetic attempt at grabbing disputed land; that's just not how one claims land. If Serbia and Croatia accepted it, though, it would be rather interesting to see how it unfolds.

One thing's for sure, customs officials in Serbia and Croatia are going to have a headache of a lifetime dealing with smuggling...
