Ya, and knowing our fellow Americans, most would vote for the U.S, regardless of what the debater actually presented.

Yeah, I've seen them and I don't really see what's so great about them. You can ask VOT or tejretics more about it but it's basically a battle of imagination. Some people are into that kind of stuff.

Heart =/= Mind

We regard heart and mind as pretty much the same thing in Confucianism. Legge translated some instances of 'heart' as 'mind'. It's opposed to sensual desires, which are felt by organs like eyes, ears, tongue, nose, and you-know-what.

They are a hypothetical war scenario between 2 or more waring nations. They are based in research of tactics and force numbers of the involved nations. You have to research treaties and conventions (i.e the Geneva Convention), and adhere to these treaties, conventions, etc. Most importantly, the situation must be realistic (within the established rules, of course).

The best thing about it is the extensive research; at least I learn a lot about the nation I choose.

No. We conduct research to compare actual tactics. There are also some creative flairs introduced, though.

Yeah, that one wasn't an official AOW debate. It did not adhere to realism at all.

Can somebody explain to me what war debates are about?

judging from the ones I've seen it's a hypothetical based on a countries military power and tactics to see who would in in a simulated battle

So they just randomly assume tactics?

pretty much

whoever spits the most convincing bullsht wins

Wow... Seems very boring...

Yeah, I've seen them and I don't really see what's so great about them. You can ask VOT or tejretics more about it but it's basically a battle of imagination. Some people are into that kind of stuff.

Actually, we research actual tactics. They are more of a strategy game; like a debate version of Risk, but with only 2 players.
