Except it isn't a solely personal thing. It has to do with the site, and thus goes on the debate.org forum.

It has to do with the overwhelming amount of it, and then the drama we've previously seen. Exactly how many months before the bi-annual election did the posts about this election start?

I think the earliest ones were April, but they were sparse until a week or two ago.

There was a while in April when they were plentiful, but they were mostly jokes.

I assumed that was quite obvious...

This thread is an attempt to decrease the prevalence of a recurring problem, which has previously crippled the main forum for an extended period of time.

Maybe their emotional concerns are done for the same reason.

That they're concerned with too many endorsement and/or defamation threads crippling the main forum, that they feel the need to post more of them... I did not think of it that way.

Yeah, literally nothing is "completely personal"; if it is a post about ones feelings then it goes into the personal section. If we didn't have this rule then anything personal, no matter how vaguely related it is to a topic, could be posted anywhere. Obviously that leads to tons of problems (Forums being flooded with crap unrelated to topic) and that is why it belongs int he personal section.

One would think this is obvious, it's sad that there needs to be an explanation and even worse that people do not understand even after the explanation.

Yeah, but threads pertaining to the election should go into the thread the election matters in.

But the problem is that they aren't really concerning the community or the election it's concerning ones personal feelings, which in reality is irrelevant to the election. And again, that excuse can be used to try to justify literally anything going into anywhere.

That is such fvcking bullsh!t. It is absolutely relevant to the election. Someone is posting an a personal feeling - specifically an opinion, on a site about exchanging opinions. Seriously, that is complete and utter bullsh!t. A personal opinion on the election can impact other members' opinions, so it is very much relevant to the forum.

How?

How? Someone is posting an a personal feeling - specifically an opinion, on a site about exchanging opinions.
Obviously, lol. Why even waste time typing such a painfully obvious thing?

Personal feelings =/= actual persuasive arguments. Plus just because it affects someone else's thoughts doesn't justify it being there, lol.

It's cute that you know swear words and you can claim something is false, but you need to explain why in order actually prove your claim lol. Nice try...

I do not wish for peoples endorsements to not be seen, rather the candidates (at least in previous elections) have a nice habit of including links to them in their posts. Which greatly decreases the need for however many dozen separate but oh-so-similar threads cluttering the main forum.

Another way to address the problem, would be a single endorsement thread for each candidate, to which all (or most) endorsements get slid nearly into; which I believe more closely matches the intent behind a more influential user's post...

Not long after I started this thread, Bluesteel started one about clean campaigning, to which one of the three key areas addressed was: "Limit the number of election threads ... I don't think anyone wants to see daily endorsement threads cropping up." http://www.debate.org...
