I figured this'd be a good exercise.

As a debate site we shouldn't take people' opposing views too personally. So name some positions you hold dearly and name people of the opposite viewpoint honestly and truly respect. Just name who you can, and try to add to the list in the future.

My own: (I'm probably forgetting people)

I'm an atheist, but I respect:
-popculturepooka
-gerrandsquire (sp?)
-InsertNameHere
-Mirza

I'm leftist but I respect:
-RoyLatham

...and I can't remember any more for leftist. See? Need more work. :\

Hmm...I'd have to say my most respected atheist here is probably Geo. As for opposing political views, wjmelements is somebody who comes to mind.

I dunno I kind of respect most people here. Probably Mirza the most, because although we have different view's on Islam, she is down to earth and rational about it. The only people I don't really like here are those who use personal insult's because they can't think of anything better to say. I love socialist's and anarchist's though, they give me a good laugh sometime's :P

I am an atheist and anti-Islam but I do respect Mirza, for the simply reason he at least tries to address critiques of Islam.

In a similar sense I respect Insert, though her faith is not as strong she makes a genuine stand against anti-Islamic bigotry, she is also very honest about her doubts and is the butt of many jokes that she has learned to laugh off.

I respect Zetsubou's honesty in admitting he is unable to construct a rational or logical argument for God and simply accepts it all on blind faith.

I even respect Datchmoto's perseverance in trolling, never once making the mistake to avoid personal insults or enter into rational debate. That sort of dedication is impressive.

As a person who despises New Labour I still respect Brian for his intelligence, humour and adherence to socialist morality. He is the rare sort of person that if you gave him a billion pounds he would still one year on care about the poor.

Probably a view 'opposites' I have missed out.
I am voting for Innomen because of his intelligence, common sense, humility and the fact that Juggle appears to listen to him. Any other Presidential style would have a large sub-section of the site up in arms. If I was President I would destroy the site though elitism, others would let it run riot. Innomen represents a middle way that works, neither draconian nor anarchic and that is the only way things can work. Plus he does it all without ego trips.

This.

I'm Christian (obviously) and I respect a lot of atheist/agnostic posters on this site. I'd probably forget some so I'll just leave it at that.

And, thanks, Yvette. You get my props too. :D

I respect quite a few people on here who I have some heavy disagreements with, but I know are smart and versed enough in the subjects they're talking about to have a valid argument. Namely: Ragnar, Kleptin, RoyLatham, brian_eggleston, mattrodstrom, Puck, Rezz, Lwerd + Vi, and at certain moments, Mirza, Geo, and Nags.

However, I have little patience for some people that don't present their own ideas and defenses and rely on others to make it for them to the extent that it seems like they have no ideas themselves. Same goes for people who are so dogmatic in their beliefs that they refuse to see any contradictory position to theirs. It's that sort of stupidity that leads to this place going downhill.

I'll admit that I'm guilty of that at times, mainly because my areas of knowledge are limited. I may not have a broad area of knowledge, but those things I do know about I have a reasonable amount of knowledge in.

I have to say I respect C_N a lot because even though we differ politically, I can tell he is a decent, intelligent and caring person - so why does he support the Tories then? :)
