Another forum asking about ELO.

Ok, so I know how to calculate how much elo you gain from winning a debate.
But how would you calculate that if your opponent is new on DDO and it's their first debate, so they have no elo?

According to an old post, the change in the participant's Elo score is 100 (W+9L)/10W, where W=winner's original Elo, and L=loser's. The change is added to the winner's score and subtracted from the loser's. The default starting score is 2000. I think some tweaks have been made to the system on DDO, but I haven't followed that.

The basic system was invented by Arpad Elo for use in rating chess players. https://en.wikipedia.org...

It also can't go below 1000, or above 9000. I don't regret the existence of it, but I do wish people would focus on it less.
