Aloha, DDO!

Intro

Just another Presidential Update. I wanted to qucikyl plug a few programs that are currently going on:

1. I just wanted to remind everyone that if they would like to be mentored by an experienced debater to reach out to Zaradi, who is running the New Member Mentorship Program [http://www.debate.org...]. Zaradi is also in search of mentors, not just mentees.

2. Tej [http://www.debate.org...] is currently working on the "Biweekly Topics" for the forums. If you're interested in submitting or suggesting a topic, please reach out to him. Thanks!

3. And, as always, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to contact me, Zaradi, or BV. We'd be happy to listen and help.

Updates

- The tournament system has been overhauled. Regular tournaments are now going to be held on a trimonthly basis, and the sticky will be updated to reflect that soon. You can read more about the update here: [http://www.debate.org...]. Talk to me or Max to sign-up to host!
- I compiled a list of winners from recent tournament winners on DDO, and now the tournament sticky has been updated by Max with that information [http://www.debate.org...].
- My administration's "how to debate" guide is currently in the works, and should be out about halfway through my term (late Aug. or early Sept.) This guide should be in-depth and will, hopefully, really help people learn the essential mechanics of debate.

Community Activities

- Mafia Sign-Ups: http://www.debate.org...
- Regular Tournament: http://www.debate.org...
- DDO Jeopardy!: Feel free to watch the hangouts; they're usually fun to join even if you're not competing

Trivia

Someone recently told me they were going to visit Africa, and they said that they would "have to watch out for the lions." Actually, lions kill about 70 humans each year, but hippos kill about 3,000. In fact, more people died from hippo attacks in 2003 than they did in the top 10 countries for terrorism that year. So, it would probably be smarter if that person watched out for the hippos!

Bossy told me that Juggle's decision to disable DDO's ads had something to do with the dysfunctional mobile version.

1. Is this true?
2. Does that mean they're planning on improving the mobile version?

You have no standing to make such inquests, peasant. Return to your hovel and be thankful that the magnanimous Lord Airmax suffers you to pollute His air.
"The Collectivist experiment is thoroughly suited (in appearance at least) to the Capitalist society which it proposes to replace. It works with the existing machinery of Capitalism, talks and thinks in the existing terms of Capitalism, appeals to just those appetites which Capitalism has aroused, and ridicules as fantastic and unheard-of just those things in society the memory of which Capitalism has killed among men wherever the blight of it has spread."

1. Is this true?

Juggle would need to talk about the specifics, i.e. the reason for disabling the ads. But, I think we can surmise that Juggle is currently trying to optimize and improve the site, and that removing the ads is just one component of this broader process. Improving site (and, perhaps, ad) functionality is part of that.

2. Does that mean they're planning on improving the mobile version?

As I said, it's part of a broader process of improvement for both the desktop and mobile versions. But, I would note that Juggle has made the mobile version optional and it has removed some of the annoying formatting in the version itself, thereby improving it. So, I would say the mobile version has already been demonstrably improved. Naturally there are still a lot of things that need to be fixed, and Juggle will be working on those soon, and as this process continues.

Ha! Oh! I say! Thanks for the entertainment, perhaps His Lordship will see fit to garb you in motley someday. You cannot challenge His powers; the unwashed masses will drown in their own blood before their cries of anguish furrow His godly brow.

ALSO...

I should add that Tejretics is official taking over from Kasmic as the leader of the bi-weekly topics. Please reach out to him if you want to submit an OP.

I think that this may be a result of the on-going process of site updating that Juggle has undertaken. For more reliable information, I'd talk to Max, but I am sure this will be corrected eventually.

Also, any word on Juggle's progress with the mobile update? I'm guessing not but the mobile update is kind of a non-issue given the ability to revert to desktop version.

Did you ever get the DDO blog going?

I'm not sure at the moment. I am trying to work out availabilities.

Also, any word on Juggle's progress with the mobile update? I'm guessing not but the mobile update is kind of a non-issue given the ability to revert to desktop version.

I think that the ability to opt-out of the update is Juggle's solution. Right now, spreading awareness about the presence of the option is important. I will try to persuade Juggle to make the option more prominent and visible on the site, as well.

Did you ever get the DDO blog going?

No, not yet, but it's still something I am interested in doing. For right now, I am prioritizing other projects, and so hopefully I'll be able to turn my attention to the blog shortly.
