(I didn't want to derail the other thread.)

Was anyone surprised at how they scored, or did they change significantly from their last test? Now that my gf doesn't come around much I can talk about her behind her back (tehe) -- I dunno if anyone noticed, but Vi did a complete about face in ideology much akin to the more popular 180 of Cody Franklin!

Tomorrow it will be 2 years to the day that I first e-mailed Vi asking her if she'd like to debate me... and the rest is history. Back then, her profile literally read "Ayn Rand is my hero." She had a shirt that read, "Capitalists do it ruthlessly" (rawr) and I remember innumerable late night conversations as recent as last fall when she defended a 100% Libertarian society.

The other day I heard Vi tell her friend, "Jennifer Government? That's a great book." I literally remember last year me saying, "I think I'll read Jennifer Government" and her response being, "I thought you didn't like fiction" lol... and I at least have her real life friends as witnesses if you guys don't remember Vi as a militant Libertarian back in the day.

Anyway, I can say she has become more liberal than me; I have also become more liberal, but I still consider myself a moderate liberal as opposed to a moderate libertarian (which I was back in the day when I very first started talking to Vi). I've become increasingly liberal, but she did as well - more than me - at a very fast pace. I'd say her shift started sometime last March. I think I can now officially identify as Liberal and I think Vi might as well, which to me is crazy considering she was the female version of Ragnar back when she first frequented DDO. I think when people talk about ideology shifts, Freedo is old news, and Cody is the big case (authoritarian to free market), but Vi's shift has been pretty drastic as well (from right to left) in the opposite direction of Cody. Interesting how people's views can change and why.

Edit: Moderate Libertarian... doesn't sound right. Meh, I don't feel like explaining. Anyway my place on the horizontal line has remained consistently the same for the past few years. About 3 years ago I placed in the same spot I do today (leftist). Then about 2 years ago I was on the same horizontal line, but to the right. About 1 year ago I stayed on the same horizontal line but placed right in the middle. And now I'm on the same horizontal line back to the left spot I was.

I remember Vi's ideological shift, and the few convos we had about what different versions of liberalism offered, though I thought for sure she was going to stick with a classical liberal bent. How much of a left liberal has she become, exactly? xD

I think what happens often is things become more clear, and the details get cleaned up. What i mean by that is, one's core values remain relatively the same, but our political views slowly come closer in line with our values and less in line with some party line (at least i would like to think this happens to some). My first vote was a primary and i voted for...i have a hard time saying this....i was young mind you, and you know....al gore. As time went on i heard things, and incorporated other things into my political thought rather than just clinging to people's ideas that i admired.

I have certainly shifted quite a bit since joining this site. I first joined as a die-hard libertarian socialist. I'm now more of an authoritarian who advocates a free-market to a certain extent(I can't really come up with a label for it so I just call myself moderate).

Views change as a result of experience. We do not always know about the facts of other sides and once we get to know about them, we may start embracing them.

Yea, that's probably what happened to me.
