Test going to http://www.debate.org...

time it.

This is a test page "outside" from yourself
http://www.webpagetest.org...

Give me some feedback. Seeing ~20 second until anything comes from the server.

I noticed that opening a PM conversation usually takes a couple minutes.

Seriously, you need to have a page load is 2 sec or less. 5 seconds plus and you are running users off. 20 seconds is.. just bad.

I really wish we could get a good reporting system in. We have no idea if this is being addressed, if anyone besides users (airmax included) knows of it, or a ETA for a resolution.

I dropped the issue with airmax, and I don't intend to bring it up with him again, but that there are issues every day that just lead to a "well, no one cares about DDO" attitude only hurts the site reputation, and potential users.

Thanks bsh.

The "outside" test helps to verify that it is not just your connection. So, a 30 sec from the outside site along with your personal experence confirms a systemic problem. I presume you are seeing the lag on your own computer too, right?

My own lag is more like 45 seconds...

This site has more than enough hits per day to make it profitable. It is very "sticky" (I hate all the marketing terms) meaning that users stay for a long time, and have allegiance. If the owners aren't making money off it, it is they who are doing something wrong.

If they want the user base to grow, they need to give some attention the the problems we all just put up with. If this was the site I first visited, I would have been out the door on the first day. I still stay out of the forums because it is so dated. This all needs work.

no problem. The kicker is, the server is responding quick enough, but it is waiting, not sending anything back for ~20 sec. odd that it is staying right in this range.

Mine - 25 seconds
Webpagetest.org - 23.804 seconds

I've heard that Juggle knows about it and that the issue should be resolved soon.

There is a function being called on body load

OnlineTimer(15000)

In the testing there is a 15s gap where nothing is happening, and this makes sense. I have no idea what this function is. 15000ms = 15sec, seems a likely culprit. The polls do NOT have this function, and they are loading file.

I may look through the scripts to see what this is, but enough already. An open issue like this for over 12hr?

This is the bugger. It is the issue, I am almost sure.

function OnlineTimer(s) {

$.ajax({
url: "/opinions/~services/opinions.asmx/GetStats",
type: 'GET',
dataType: 'json',
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
success: function (data) {
if (data.d != null && data.d.length > 0) {
StatsLoad(data.d);
}
setTimeout("OnlineTimer(" + s + ")", s);
},
error: function (data, status, jqXHR) {
console.log('Status check issue: ' + status);
setTimeout("OnlineTimer(" + s + ")", s);
}
});
}

Each of the pages calling this function have been at the same slow (with a big pause). That is the forums, the profile, and the debates.

The pages without this are loading fine. Polls, opinions.

Try the debate again for me, see if it is doing it.

Funny, the other day I was posting about memory leaks. Now that I see this, I am thinking I was right the first time. This type of recursion can lead to stack overflow.

If they are trying to keep the status "alive" I just don't see why they are not using setInterval rather than setTimer. This is, in my humble opinion, completely unnecessary. I would love some feedback from them on this one.

What is? The outside page?

What I am asking is,

1) Using your own computer, what is the page load time for the forum?
2) Using the testing (external) page, plugging in "http://www.debate.org...; what is the time.

Every test I run is coming back with a ~15 sec "hold" between the servers first response and the page rendering. This seems to work with the function I have referenced.

Can you confirm again, was the 2sec just to load the other page, or when you ran the test?
