When using definitions for a debate, which sources are more reliable to use? Merriam Webster or Oxford Dictionary?

OED, always. Merriam Webster is bastardized English and I would instantly vote against anyone who cited it. Do me a favour and never use it.
I would prefer not to.

Both are good. Just because one uses American English doesn't make it bad. And voting against someone for the dictionary they use is a bit inappropriate.

I think both are perfectly reliable. I personally use Oxford, but it's just an old habit. It doesn't really hold any weight either way.

No. Just no. BAD PONY. American Heritage is the ONLY dictionary for decent, civilized people. Reform thyself.
