Last Week's Results

Winner: Tej [http://www.debate.org...]

Honorable Mention 1: Yonko [http://www.debate.org...]
Honorable Mention 2: Lee [http://www.debate.org...]

This Week's Contest

The Contest

As part of our ongoing efforts to revive the forums, I will be hosting an "OP of the Week" contest over a 4 week period. Posts made as part of the biweekly topics, as part of the various series on the site that I am promoting, or as part of my content-generating initiative are not eligible for this context. That being said, users contributing to these other initiatives can still enter OPs for the contest as long as those OPs are not for one of the abovementioned things. We will be enforcing these rules more strictly moving forward.

To be entered, simply meet just ONE of the following 3 bullets:

- Enter yourself by posting your OP's link here or privately PMing me
- Have your OP nominated in this thread by 3 other members
- Have your OP reach 100 or more non-spam posts

OPs must have been made on Oct. 10th or by the afternoon of Oct. 17th for them to be eligible. Zaradi and I will sift through the entries. We may enlist guest judges if need be. We will then select three winners and announce them on Mondays. We will analyze not just the quality of the OP, but its originality, and the quality of the ensuing discussion.

The Prizes

We will select up to 3 OPs (2 honorable mentions and a winner) and at least 1 OP. Any honorable mentions will receive a positive shout-out thread recognizing their OP. The winner will receive a prize of a free vote.

By "free vote," I mean that I will personally guarantee that I will vote on a debate of your choice, so long as I am given 72 hours notice. I cannot, however, guarantee that I will vote for you or for who you'd like to win. I must vote impartially, but you will at least receive one vote.

Alternatively, if you would rather not receive a vote, I am willing to discuss other prizes with selected winners as long as I judge whatever prize we agree on to be roughly equal to a vote.

TL;DR

Post good OPs, win free votes, and help revive the forums. To enter, post below, PM me, or start a lively discussion. Good luck!

I am going to nominate this post. If 2 other people nominate it, it can be eligible. Hopefully, this will remind people that they can indeed nominate the threads of others for these prizes.

Do you mean that it has to have been posted between the 10th and 17th? The wording here is a bit strange.

I nominate this thread, if only because I think that Fkkize is a *severely* underrated user. He's practically single-handedly keeping the Philosophy section alive. Any one of his threads would be equally deserving of a nomination - they're all ridiculously thought-provoking and not in cliche ways.

Not many other people really get into the nitty-gritty analytic side of philosophy here :(

I nominate this one as well. It's a fascinating topic. I'll be making a post in it soon.

Cool. /in again, I'll see what I can do.

I also nominate this OP of Fkkize's [http://www.debate.org...], the second nomination of the same OP after ShabShoral.

*third nomination, after Yonko and ShabShoral

So Fkkize's OP is up for consideration.

I will offer up a "comprehensive YYW RFD" as a prize on any debate of your choosing (could be your own or someone else's) if you win the OP of the week thing.

Disclaimer: I have no control over who wins, or whose debate will be voted on by me. I just render the decision.

Another prize I will offer, if you chose it: one 30 minute session of "debate coaching" from YYW. In this session, I'll teach you how to write an argument.

Another prize that may be offered in the future: one 30 minute session of "how to judge a debate" with a debate of your choosing as an example. This is probably the most valuable prize.

I'll nominate Ruv's forum about Religion vs Art. That makes 3, I believe.
