This Week's Contest

The Contest

As part of our ongoing efforts to revive the forums, I will be hosting an "OP of the Week" contest over a 4 week period. This is the final contest! Posts made as part of the biweekly topics, as part of the various series on the site that I am promoting, or as part of my content-generating initiative are not eligible for this context. That being said, users contributing to these other initiatives can still enter OPs for the contest as long as those OPs are not for one of the abovementioned things. We will be enforcing these rules more strictly moving forward.

To be entered, simply meet just ONE of the following 3 bullets:

- Enter yourself by posting your OP's link here or privately PMing me
- Have your OP nominated in this thread by 3 other members
- Have your OP reach 100 or more non-spam posts

OPs must have been made on Oct. 17th or by the afternoon of Oct. 24th for them to be eligible. Winners for this last cycle will be announced in Monday's Presidential Update. Zaradi and I will sift through the entries. We may enlist guest judges if need be. We will then select three winners and announce them on Mondays. We will analyze not just the quality of the OP, but its originality, and the quality of the ensuing discussion.

The Prizes

We will select up to 3 OPs (2 honorable mentions and a winner) and at least 1 OP. Any honorable mentions will receive a positive shout-out thread recognizing their OP. The winner will receive a prize of a free vote.

By "free vote," I mean that I will personally guarantee that I will vote on a debate of your choice, so long as I am given 72 hours notice. I cannot, however, guarantee that I will vote for you or for who you'd like to win. I must vote impartially, but you will at least receive one vote.

Alternatively, if you would rather not receive a vote, I am willing to discuss other prizes with selected winners as long as I judge whatever prize we agree on to be roughly equal to a vote.

TL;DR

Post good OPs, win free votes, and help revive the forums. To enter, post below, PM me, or start a lively discussion. Good luck!

Just to even things out.

I think I just realized something... I've been doing this contest wrong. I've not been making a good OP, but just trying to facilitate discussion. Goodness... I need to read lol.

Bsh1. I love you* but don't you think this competition makes us all look like losers a bit? Like, you're having to beg and bribe people to post stuff in the forums? Maybe it'd be better off the front page? o_O

The point of forum revival was to revive the forums, implying that people weren't posting enough before. So yes, this was a shameless attempt to bribe people into posting because steps like this were necessary, IMO, to address the issue.

Yeah the forums are really dead. But I'm curious, because do the DDO forums have any value other than what people get from them? I mean, it's not as if it matters if they die off. They're only valuable if people want to come here and discuss stuff, and if they don't, then I'm not really sure what the purpose is in manufacturing activity?

All the awesome people have left. I can't shake this feeling that they've found better discussion sites elsewhere and are having full on debates about topical, controversial, mind-expanding issues, while we're left here listening to how teenage boys don't believe in god...

OH GOD was it my fault? Was I too boring and pedantic??? IS THIS THE WAY MY LIFE IS GOING TO BE FOREVER NOW???

Yeah the forums are really dead.

I disagree. I think they're a lot better than they were just a few weeks ago. The politics forum, for instance, has had a lot of good discussion.

But I'm curious, because do the DDO forums have any value other than what people get from them? I mean, it's not as if it matters if they die off. They're only valuable if people want to come here and discuss stuff, and if they don't, then I'm not really sure what the purpose is in manufacturing activity?

People were complaining that the forums were dead. As site President, it is my goal to provide the best possible site experience (within my reasonable ability to deliver on that goal), and so I thought it was prudent to work on reviving the forums. Moreover, having an active forum is beneficial for attracting and keeping good users.
