Aloha, DDO!

Intro

Just another Presidential Update. I wanted to just plug a few programs that are currently going on:

1. We're in need of tournament mods! If you would like to be a mod for a beginners' or regular tournament, please contact me or Airmax to apply. Thanks!

2. If you would like to be mentored as part of the New User Mentorship Program, please contact Zaradi [http://www.debate.org...]. If you'd like to volunteer as a mentor, you may also reach out to him directly.

3. To submit a topic for the Bi-Weekly Topics, please contact Tej [http://www.debate.org...].

4. And, as always, if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to contact me, Zaradi, or BV. We'd be happy to listen and help.

Updates

- In order to collect users feedback about the Forum Revival Initiative, I have created a series of polls [http://www.debate.org...]. I would greatly appreciate it if you could take just a few moments of your time to answer them.
- We are vamping up our negotiations over the opt-in Voting Reform program, and we hope to announce more details in the coming months.
- I have also decided to start including forum games (besides mafia) and fan fics (not just fan fic sign-ups) in the "Community Activities" portion of these updates. Forum games will be eligible if they were created in the 2 weeks preceding an update, and if they are labeled as a game, either in the title or in the OP.

Community Activities

- Fan Fic (Faceless): http://www.debate.org...
- Fan Fic (Legacy): http://www.debate.org...
- Fan Fic (Untitled): http://www.debate.org...
- Forum Game: http://www.debate.org...

Honorable Mention: Famous [http://www.debate.org...]

Congratulations to all our winners (Tej, Cole, Ruv, and Harder)!

Announcement

I am just going to announce here that Zaradi and I will be seeking reelection in December. Sapphique has also graciously agreed to be our Chief of Staff in our future administration, should we be reelected. We will be releasing our platform on October 31st along with a brief, 3-way interview.

Trivia

I just decided to do a "today" in history thing, and so I've selected some interesting events that occurred on October 26th to tell you about. The first Continental Congress was convened on this date in 1774, and was historically significant because it was the first major instance of political cooperation across the colonies. It alarmed the British, who feared (rightly) that it would herald even further cooperation and bring tighter bonds among the colonies, presenting a problem for them. In 1967 on this date, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi crowned himself Shah (Emperor) of Iran. His reign would be marked be aggressive secularization and modernization, deeply alienating religious and working class segments of the population, leading to his overthrow and the establishment of the current Islamic Republic of Iran. Finally, in 2001 on this date, Dubya passed the PATRIOT Act, which has since spawned numerous LD and Policy debates across the country, as well as being a lightning rod for criticisms about overbearing government.

You win a "Free Vote," meaning that I promise to vote on one debate of your choice, as long as you give me 72 hours notice. I must vote impartially.

You can also choose something else, if you'd prefer.

How long does that offer extend? I don't really *need* any votes on any debates right now...

Okay... I'll think about it, and consider your response to my question above.

Also, Nov. 23rd will be the last of these updates for this term. If reelected, I'll continue them, and if not, I hope the succeeding administrations will.
