Most who know me would peg me as "anti military", and I would not put up much of a fuss about that. While I don't gush over military service, I do have tremendous respect for those that serve - and with that in mind, I would like to mention the veterans close to me, and encourage others to do so too.

My Father - RMR

My Stepfather - EKH
Lieutenant Navy

Paternal Grandfather - CMR

In the same numbers as non-veterans.

I support some veterans, who are patriots. Such as Timothy McVeigh, or Ted KacZynski.

I like Jewish people, but not so much where I have a boner for the American military.

"In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields."
"Praise Allah."

I am a little curious now about members who have served or have family who served. Seems like few respondents so far.

Maybe I'll start serving. I mean I had high ASVAB scores, and nothing better to do. Do they accept domestic terrorists as potential recruits?

Last time I was going through the process and said screw it, they literally asked for 100 personal references, a list of every single job I've ever held, and where I've lived for the past ten years.

Like why the fvck would anybody need 100 references? They didn't even mention me going into anything involving a bunch of classified material, it seemed silly.

My sister went through a deep background check. Yea, they look at everything, interview family and friends. If you mess up, you are gone very quick.

Praising veterans when only 5% are even worthy of praise?

Self righteous people who are anti-military often run into this dilemma where they do not want to denounce servicemen, because then people might "negatively" judge them, and they can't have that happening.

Instead, they try to paint this as a "character" thing. BS, that's what I call it.

I actually agree with the tactics of both Timothy McVeigh and Ted KacZynski, but how can you consider them patriots when both wanted to overthrow the government of the United States of America?

I mean, Ted Kacynski (who actually isn't even a veteran) even wanted to completely abolish the United States, since he was an anarchist like me.

I don't know about that. Wylted seems to actually believe what he says, and for the most part I agree with him on what he is saying.

Not saying he doesn't believe it, but he is stating his opinion directly in a way in illicit an emotional response. That is trolling.

Most people join the military because they think it's cool and want to mooch off with the renown associated with it. As they get a free ride with other people's money to perform absolutely no productive service whatsoever.

If people were open about being in the military for reasons like, let's say.... wanting to prove oneself or to live more dangerously/get experience with conflict, then I would happily chip in for their expenses voluntarily.

It is only when I hear bullsh!t reasons like wanting to defend one's country, that I actually get mad.

Luckily we have mercenaries. Way better profession to begin with.

I can't make an argument for Kaczynski, since he was an anarchist, but I could for McVeigh. Patriotism has to do with your loyalty to your country, not your loyalty to the government.

I don't support or respect the troops. I consider them idiots for joining the military. I don't believe they're fighting for anybody's freedom. The service men and women who join, do so without even considering the philosophical reasons for why that might be a bad ideal, and they are complicent in the immoral and dangerous foreign policy of the United States government. The people who signed up before 9/11 are also partially responsible for the blowback they caused when we were attacked on 9/11. The ones currently serving are responsible for the blowback they cause, which has been seen and will be seen in upcoming attacks of United States embassies, and diplomats, as well as whatever terrorist actions, do end up reaching our shores.

The members of the military are a bunch of low IQ people who barely deserve to be called human, those who are of high intelligence, are just evil.

If I thought I might go into politics one day, I might join. Even at my age. I think it's unfair to consider a path that will allow you to make foreign policy decisions, without ever putting yourself in their boots. So I do forgive aspiring politicians to a certain extent, or those joining for various research purposes.
