Do they randomly select moderators who qualify or do you fill out an application?

There's only one moderator? I thought there were poll moderators, etc.

I don't think you have to be a really good debater as that doesn't tell whether you're good at the job or not.

That's because those aren't actually the "requirements" to become a moderator.

No, you probably do not qualify. The moderator of Debate.org is technically an employee of Juggle Corporation (the company that owns this Site), so you'd literally have to contact them and ask for a job. The job is occupied by Airmax1227 currently and it's extremely improbable that you currently have the capability of taking his position.

It's not really something you apply for. Stick around for awhile, learn the ropes of the site, be a responsible and respectful person, and one day it could possibly happen.

Harsh bro

You need to have voted on a lot of debates, and good votes are required
Max rarely votes

I make up for a lack of quantity with - ok nevermind you are right on both points... this was clearly a humorous miscommunication, but thanks for clearing that up ;)

I know I've said 23 is probably the youngest age that I'd appoint someone a moderator, but it's not exactly a strict rule, especially when it comes to junior moderators. I do imagine however, that ideally, whomever I appoint to replace me will likely be in their late 20's at least.

I think a younger person is fine in a position of less responsibility (PetersSmith is 19 and does a great job as the polls junior mod), but for positions of greater responsibility the individual needs to be at least a legal adult, and for the direct assistant moderators (positions like the ones Whiteflame and Bladerunner hold - who are both assistant mods (and hold dual positions in voting moderation) and head moderator the person needs to be a bit older. There's a lot of responsibility and discretion required in those roles that teenagers and young adults are often not typically responsible enough for. That's not to say there aren't potentially members of the site of that age group that could be trusted with that responsibility, but it's not common or ideal.

I wouldn't put it that way because even someone younger could be appointed to a role that I feel is important.

Moderation roles requiring greater trust and responsibility require people that tend to be older because they tend to be more responsible and more trustworthy.

It fluctuates based on who is available and active at any time... so a current mod may be inactive and a new one could be appointed at any time... but currently moderation breaks down like this:

Airmax1227 - Head moderator
Whiteflame - Assistant Moderator
Bladerunner060 - Assistant moderator
PetersSmith - Polls moderator (she's also branched into another area of moderation in helping me remove ad spam by reporting it regularly)
Whiteflame and Bladerunner are also the vote moderators

Okay, I get it. So basically you let some teens do it, but not for important things.

I wouldn't put it that way because even someone younger could be appointed to a role that I feel is important.

Moderation roles requiring greater trust and responsibility require people that tend to be older because they tend to be more responsible and more trustworthy.

Okay. Thanks. I was just asking. How many moderator are there?

It fluctuates based on who is available and active at any time... so a current mod may be inactive and a new one could be appointed at any time... but currently moderation breaks down like this:

Airmax1227 - Head moderator
Whiteflame - Assistant Moderator
Bladerunner060 - Assistant moderator
PetersSmith - Polls moderator (she's also branched into another area of moderation in helping me remove ad spam by reporting it regularly)
Whiteflame and Bladerunner are also the vote moderators

There is no opinions or forums moderators?

I am the moderator for those sections, just as I am for all the other aforementioned sections. The opinions section isn't exactly high maintenance though, and Whiteflame and Bladerunner assist with issues regarding the forums and member issues (as does Peters with the ad spam... and of course the membership president assists). I have appointed sub-forum specific mods before though and may do so again.

How do you qualify to be a moderator?

You need to be a good debater
Max doesn't have many quality debates nor a great deal of them.

Harsh bro

You need to have voted on a lot of debates, and good votes are required
Max rarely votes

I make up for a lack of quantity with - ok nevermind you are right on both points... this was clearly a humorous miscommunication, but thanks for clearing that up ;)

You need to be liked by people on the site
Not necessarially, just by Juggle. That and you have to be at least 23.

I know I've said 23 is probably the youngest age that I'd appoint someone a moderator, but it's not exactly a strict rule, especially when it comes to junior moderators. I do imagine however, that ideally, whomever I appoint to replace me will likely be in their late 20's at least.

That's one of my goals on this site. That and the HOF.
