So I haven't been on the DDO forum in forever since I live in the games forum playing mafia, but I saw talk of forum revival, which is a weird concept because it isn't a long term plan but attempts to be.

Has it been proposed to merge science and technology, health and education, personal and misc, society and politics, arts and entertainment, and reduce the number of forums to ensure high relevancy to the current generation of DDO'ers?

Atm, if nobody is posting in the 'funny' forum, then it really doesn't serve much utility to the population of DDO and hence ought to be merged or removed. Likewise, if a forum is overflowing with activity, it might be nice to break it down into smaller categories.

For example, a while back mafia games were the thing and the games forum hosted both mafia games and other misc games while talk of computer games etc were swamped and sent to the second page before they could catch an audience. In this situation creating a forum specifically to separate mafia out would have been a wise move Imo.

So what's the deal with talk of forum revival as it is? and what are people hoping to get out of it?

I'm in agreement on science and technology.

I like keeping politics and society separated.

Though the misc spam has died down a bit recently, allowing it in the same forum as personal topics would be bad for people that actually want to talk about personal things - depending on how much people are liking their spam.

Arts and entertainment can be done.

I think that, aside from your suggestions, politics and economics should be considered; as well as education and society, instead of health and education.

All things considered, though, it's futile to even think of this.

Funny and miscellaneous should be merged. They're kind of similar.

I think Arts, Education, Entertainment, Funny, Health, History, News, and Technology should be eliminated entirely because they fall within the "society" category. As luck would have it, "religion" and "sports" do as well, but sports is discrete and specific enough to merit its own, and as a matter of policy it would be seriously bad to co-mingle the religion forum with any other forum. If only I could build a "Berlin Wall" (and one without a "big beautiful door," as Trump has suggested for the Mexican-American border)
between the religion forum and everything else.... but I digress.

Atm, if nobody is posting in the 'funny' forum, then it really doesn't serve much utility to the population of DDO and hence ought to be merged or removed. Likewise, if a forum is overflowing with activity, it might be nice to break it down into smaller categories.

Idk... In theory I agree with this, but I wouldn't say that any forum (other than the religion forum) is "overflowing with activity." For policy reasons, keeping the religion forum discrete and separate is preferable.

I moderate the health and arts forum so removing them would remove my purpose of existence.

The polls section was added in this year, along with updates to debate finding. The voting system was overhauled too this year, with more options for voting systems proposed by the community.

A change in the forums section would not be unprecedented.

Polls have been around for more than a year. I don't know what you mean by debate finding, but I haven't noticed any changes in the past 13 months I've been here.

I also don't know when Juggle overhauled the voting system this year.

The last thing they added was the mobile version of the site to pass by Google mobile algorithms. It was disastrous, and it took them months of prodding to get it changed so we can just use the regular site.

So in other words, any changes to the forums would not be abnormal.
