I have seen people do this. Before the 1st round ends they just quit the debate and it goes back to the challenge, how is this done?

You cannot auto-forfeit a debate, you must wait for time to expire.
Sorry.

But a long time ago Lwerd accepted my debate for "Steve Young was a Better Quarterback than Joe Montana" Then when her time was close to expiring my debate went back up on the challenge page how did that work?

Simple.
She let it expire, and the challenge was automatically reinstated.

or necessarilly understood to be so given the way in which you understand the issue at hand...

it's inherent in the "ideas" being discussed... though they may or may not connect up accurately to the way things are.

I'd say there's an "absolute"... there's just no reason to think we can have an accurate conception of it... it seems as though Our Reason does not Reach!

Says you and what army? :P

More seriously, though, relativism (which is the new de facto theme for this thread) is a form of intellectual laziness; a elegant sophisim designed to end rational discussion on any topic.

Logician one: A = B, B = C, :. A = C

Logician two: Maybe for you, it does. A = Z for me.

Without disproving relativism, at that point logical discussion becomes pointless. There is no common ground, no shared axioms, that can be relied on for leverage in a conversation like that; since everything can be denied, nothing can be asserted.

You want an absolute truth? Here's one: I hate relativism.

Lol, so only tautologies are absolutely true?

How about this absolute truth: "there is no absolute truth."

Seems to be an inherent contradiction there.

Yeah, but she doesn't seem to think that's good enough. She doesn't like cogito ergo sum either.

You mean a tautology isn't good enough?

I don't understand how you can hold the belief "there is no absolute truth" because then you are holding up that belief ("there is no absolute truth") as an absolute truth.

If there is no absolute truth, then there is no "A" that is always true. If "A" is defined as "there is no absolute truth," but no "A' can always be true, then there must be an absolute truth.
