I hear a lot ABOUT steampunk but never see anything exemplifying the genre.

The few things I can think of are generally not very good, e.g. Wild Wild West (the movie), bad/generic vampire movies, FreakAngels...

I guess League of Extraordinary Gentlemen might count, I liked that a lot.

I can think of more stuff that has elements of steampunk but is clearly another genre, like Avatar or His Dark Materials or Fullmetal Alchemist.
