Aloha!

I am announcing the launch of a new program that will honor great threads on DDO. Every month, a committee of 6 people, Chaired by Endark, will nominate and select an "OP of the Month" and 1-4 "Honorable Mentions." I will not vote unless there is a tie.

If you are the winner of the contest, you will be awarded with a free vote! A "free" vote is not promise to vote for you, but rather it's a promise to vote for you. We've assembled a committee of people who will give these votes (all are very qualified), Chaired by Tej. Winners should ask him for their free vote, giving him at least 4 days notice before the voting period expires. The purpose of this contest is twofold: (1) to incentivize quality forum content on the site, and (2) to spotlight excellent content on the forums in the hope of sparking conversation. This also fulfills a campaign promise we made in our bid for reelection.

All threads are eligible as long as they were posted in the month in-question. While winners will be selected based on holistic evaluations, not by any specific rubric, some of the criteria judges might consider include: (a) whether it generated quality discussion, (b) whether the OP was substantive and thought-provoking, and (c) whether the OP was novel in its content. I will now announce the inaugural results of this contest:

Winner of the OP of the Month - February 2016:

YYW: Iraq's Significance to the 2016 Elections
[http://www.debate.org...]

Honorable Mentions:

1. Raisor: Admit It: Blocking a Justice is Just Politics
[http://www.debate.org...]

2. Thett: Maybe we really DO need a temporary shutdown
[http://www.debate.org...]

3. Diqi: Violating moral principles to save your life
[http://www.debate.org...]

4. sdavio: Leibniz's metaphysics
[http://www.debate.org...]

Congratulations to all our honorees! Happy Leap Day :)

I'd prefer most committee members remain anonymous, so that they can also be impartial. Though, they're free to say if they're on the committee if they'd like.

Your thread was nominated for consideration by someone on the committee. The committee voted on all nominees, and you received the highest score.

I'm always delighted to be recognized for episodic brilliance. I'm just surprised, and a bit confused.

I didn't really know that this was a thing, or, if I ever knew, I forgot. And then I won... so... naturally I'm very interested in coming to know how I won.

But if people are interested in my "free vote" they should contact me. I don't debate these days, and I'll be happy to use this on a debate I feel to be deserving.

I think you ask Tejretics.

Well of course but my point is that I don't personally *need* the vote, so I'm obviously going to give it away, and if people want it they should let me know so that I know whose debate to tell Tej to vote on.

If you were my pokemon, I'd name you bumpwhore.

Your 4 attacks would be:

1) Empathize - You feel bad for creatures you knock-out, giving them +5 hp upon revival.
2) Hug - You squeeze your opponent into submission.
3) Take the high-road - You are able to automatically dodge any sneak attacks.
4) Bump - You take any object or topic, regardless of relevance, and call attention towards it with a 50% chance of success.

You evolved from a creature known as Bumpy, and your final evolutionary form is BumpGod. In this final form, anything you bump automatically hits 200 posts.
