Aloha!

I will be making my regular Presidential Update on Monday, but I wanted to mention some things now, before then.

1. General Coaching Program. Starting on the 15th, we will be launching a program to assist "non-new" debaters improve their debating skills. This will reduce the potential pool of applicants to the New User Mentorship Program, which will allow NUMP to focus more intensively on those noobs. Non-new debaters are debaters who have been on the site for 3 or more months and who have 50 or more debates. The GCP will be run by The-Voice-of-Truth, and will work like this: users submit one of their past or recent debates for review, and they will have their debate constructively critiqued by an experienced user so that they can see where they can improve. The GCP is limited to 10 applicants per month.

2. Debate Champions League. I encourage people to participate in this, esp. given some remarks I have seen about low debate quality. This is a superb way to begin to reinvigorate debating on DDO.

3. New Users Outreach. Hayd is now leading an effort to reach out to new users to welcome them to the site and to introduce them to useful site resources.

4. Survey. I wanted to take this opportunity to make one last pitch for anyone who has the survey link but who has not taken it yet to take it. The survey will close on the 12th, and I hope to make the data public that night. Keep and eye peeled for that info in the forums!

5. Monthly Recognition. I will be putting together a "Debate of the Month" award effort, and am considering doing something similar for voting, if that would be of interest for anyone.

So, please watch out for the regular update I'll be making on Monday. I also have an AMA in the misc forum if you have any questions, or you can ask here. Hopefully this gets a productive discussion going! Happy Hump Day :)

I'm really looking forward to see how this goes considering that I'm a part of it.

2. Debate Champions League. I encourage people to participate in this, esp. given some remarks I have seen about low debate quality. This is a superb way to begin to reinvigorate debating on DDO.

I don't know how successful it is going to be in the long term but I do think that it'll be a lot of fun and a very interesting tournament to say the least.

3. New Users Outreach. Hayd is now leading an effort to reach out to new users to welcome them to the site and to introduce them to useful site resources.

How does that work? Does he have to manually PM every single new user and and tell them about the site?

4. Survey. I wanted to take this opportunity to make one last pitch for anyone who has the survey link but who has not taken it yet to take it. The survey will close on the 12th, and I hope to make the data public that night. Keep and eye peeled for that info in the forums!

I've done it.

5. Monthly Recognition. I will be putting together a "Debate of the Month" award effort, and am considering doing something similar for voting, if that would be of interest for anyone.

That sounds good. How would it work with voting though? That would be long. Reading through the whole debate and then through the whole vote.

So, please watch out for the regular update I'll be making on Monday. I also have an AMA in the misc forum if you have any questions, or you can ask here. Hopefully this gets a productive discussion going! Happy Hump Day :)

He and a group of other people friend new users and send them a welcome message. They try to get about 5 noobs each per week, so it's not too onerous an obligation, and it helps to reach out to people.

I am not sure what you mean...People see good votes all the time that they can then nominate...Could you clarify?

That sounds reasonable.

It's a bit difficult isn't it. You have to read every nominated vote and you'll also have read the debate as well so that you can judge them. Won't that take up a lot of time considering there'll be quite a few entries (I presume ).

Ah, I see what you mean. Well, that depends on the quantity of nominated votes, and how familiar the committee is with the debates in question, but it should not be unmanageable.

And, again, the vote of the month is just and idea I'm floating--it's not, unlike the Debate of the Month, something I am firm on making happen yet.
