I recently finished my first debate on the website. http://www.debate.org...

I am thoroughly impressed both by my opponent and some of the feedback I have recieved. My interest in serious debate has increased exponentially. Due to this, I am looking for a few great topics and a few great opponents. If you have a topic you would like to debate and find me a suitable opponent please indicate so in this thread.

Was going to send you a good luck message, ask you how you think it went - but you don't do messages. So...erm, good luck, how do you think it went?

Also, I was having a look through and it's quite difficult to find another debate that's been completed. Kudos to us.

I believe that I've sent you a friend request. You can send me a message if you accept it.

I think the debate went well and I think that if you'll be a great asset to the site if you continue to debate and post of this quality of forum posts. Hopefully this has got you familiar with the format of debates on this site so you can continue to improve. I'm sure that we'll get a few votes on the debate that will hopefully provide extensive feedback on how we both did.

Also, I was having a look through and it's quite difficult to find another debate that's been completed. Kudos to us.

A few good debaters here are whiteflame, bluesteel and Danielle. Bluesteel and Danielle are no longer active on the site but they are some of the best debaters in the sites history. A lot of the debates now are significantly shorter than ours was because a lot of the good members on the site have left.

I'm just now reading this debate on whether it's permissable to kill one innocent person to save many. It's a very well argued debate. I'm back and forth - but as yet only part way through.

Tricky subject. I really don't want to do this friendship thing. I'm here striving for objectivity - and I don't want to have to end up backing your stance that... dinosaurs could talk, or something because you're my friend. The whole thing is just an anathema to me. I'd be much happier if the site didn't have that function... but without reflection upon anyone (but myself) it's not a feature I wish to use. Also, I don't want to have to give my details so I can vote. And people stand waaay too close in queues. What's up with that!? Freeeeks me out!

Anyhow, I agree. The debate was fun. I do have a better idea of what it's about now, and I think I can do better than I did. I hope someone votes, and explains why. I'm going to leave a link here, despite my previous lack of success posting links:

http://www.debate.org...

thanks for the other links.
I may well check them out.

Yes, I've read that one. It's a very interesting debate.

The friend function isn't so that you defend your friends beliefs. There are some people with over 3000 friends on the site - that doesn't mean that the one person who is friends with all of those people has to defend all of their beliefs. The friend function is so that you can PM certain people, post comments on people's profiles and sometimes you can restrict certain information to only your friends knowledge (eg. your political ideology or relationship status).

Anyhow, I agree. The debate was fun. I do have a better idea of what it's about now, and I think I can do better than I did. I hope someone votes, and explains why. I'm going to leave a link here, despite my previous lack of success posting links:

I think that it's been submitted to the voter's union so I think that we'll get a few votes.

They're definitely helpful if you read a few of their debates.

What's your position on moral realism vs moral nihilism?

I could defend moral nihilism in a debate.
