can the voting mods draft a concise summary of moderation policy?

There has been a lot of good discussion about reforming voting policy and it would help a lot of there were an easy to locate statement of how moderation operates.

Once finished it could be sticke and amended as needed.

Thanks.

There has been a lot of good discussion about reforming voting policy and it would help a lot of there were an easy to locate statement of how moderation operates.

This would be very helpful not only to users but to the mods. It would save whiteflame, BOT and airmax a significant amount of time when, instead of having to justify it every time a vote removal or non removal is questioned, they could simply just provide the link.

That's a good point, hasn't even thought about that.

They could actually include a link in their boilerplate- this would increase awareness of standards outside of the active forum users

Yes, so it seems like a sticky would be highly beneficial. They may spend a few hours of their time writing out the thread but once it's done they never really have to have any in depth discussion regarding the standards with anybody again.

It's weird that this, or a sticky thread, was never posted before. It'd also be fun if each rule was an article, and it's finer part were sections, like in modern law. Harder to follow, but fun lol.

Pursuant to article 5 section 2 item b, your vote has been removed for indecent language

I feel article 2 section 5b is unwarranted. The right to reward sources for the opponent lack of sources shouldn't be infringed upon. That being noted, I do agree with the proposal to amend article 5 section 3a, regarding the use of purposefully complicated language.

This is fun, we should total make this happen.

I do think this is a good idea. Hopefully, something like this can short circuit some of the problems we've been dealing with regarding conveying the voting standards.

What's wrong with this: http://www.debate.org...

It isn't the standard used for vote removal, I'd like to see an explicit standard defined by mods.

It is too long, mod policy on this issue should be concise.

Bluesteel's guide discusses how to put down a good vote, not a minimally acceptable vote. As an aside, I think voting moderation should be focused on fairness not on getting rid of poor quality votes (except for a higher tier opt in system).

Also I don't think that thread is stickied either?

Delegate it to BOT. How long do you think somethin like this would take to put together? Presumably there are internal mid discussions that could serve as a pretty comprehensive framework

Eh I guess it does outline reasons for removal.

Are those up to date? I think mod policy has hanged on some stuff.

Also, dedicated post + sticky makes it easier to reference. Imo bluesteel a second post as a sticky would still be an improvement.

Great idea, I hope it is concise and outlines the main factors of voting moderation, before breaking into more specific info.

Sure. We'll start working on it and whatever the final version of it looks like, will be linked in the updated "voting thread".

There are several links that already describe ideal voting, so the purpose of this will be, as you described above, a concise summary of moderation policy.

Once I have a complete draft, I'll post it in the forums and we can all discuss its various aspects to make sure the policies and the language used reflects the general desire of the community.

It isn't stickied, but is linked in the "Voting Thread," because of too much space given to stickies. I'd support a sticky as well, but I don't think it will be. But post #2 of bluesteel's guide does cover the criteria used by moderation while removing votes.

I'm happy this suggestion was raised, and am glad that everyone is in agreement that this would serve to benefit the community.

I spent about 5 hours tonight working on the first draft. So I can officially confirm that this project is well underway. We will be sure to keep everyone updated as it continues to be developed, and I look forward to gaining feedback from the community once we enter the final stages.
