People have way too much time on their hands. They create pseudo-drama in order to give themselves something to do. As far as I can tell, the presidency doesn't matter all that much -- it's just an ego accolade. All you have are egotists, who are too scared to pursue anything of real value, pursuing a silly contest for no real gain.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Free vote -- short read. I've spent well over 15 hours researching abortion in the past week, so there might be something there for you. I recommend reading Con's counter-arguments first to come to a quick decisions, but the choice is all yours:

People want to get a head start on their campaigns, then the other people don't want to be left behind, then those that are left will be put at a disadvantage then they join in and then everyone starts campaigning halfway through the presidency

That's not how anything works

then how

I'll give you the long version and then the short version

Long version:

- Dingbat named Wylted first to declare he is running even though election isnt for another 3 months
- No one cares since Wylted is incompetent
- Sitting president Bsh stuns everyone by trying to sign-on with Wylted as his Co-VP
- Attempted alliance universally panned by pro-presidency voters and abolitionists alike
- I declare as an abolitionist after coming up with revolutionary DDO Convention system to end presidency
- Donald.keller declares shortly after as a pro-presidency candidate wanting to preserve presidency
- DDO voterbase immediately groups behind either Me or DK, adding to drama
- Bsh leaves Wylteds campaign after seeing what a bad move it was, Wylted doesnt recover, spams threads to try to recover, fails and adds drama
- Wylted campaign flounders harder than Jeb Bush's, dingbat VP candidate Rosalie and brainwashed child-soldier Famousdebater dont seem to notice
- Drama with Wylted continues until self destructs. Wylted drops out
- Peace and quiet
- Peace ruined within minutes after Wylted dropping out by former dingbat VP Rosalie taking over campaign, naming brainwashed child soldier as new VP, creating sh*tload of drama
- Meanwhile, revolutionary polling app run by TBR gives credit to any person declaring they are running, even if they are a troll campaign
- Troll candidates announce left and right, some drop out and endorse others, creating recurring drama
- Surprising insurrection campaign by 1harderthanyou pops up and challenges DK for chief campaign of the pro-presidency crowd, adding to drama
- Drama surrounding lack of platform from Rosalie and Famousdabeter, aka Blind/Stupid, unfolds as platform takes almost a month to be revealed
- Platform is revealed and is shown to be complete garbage. Blind and Stupid fail to notice and only succeed in causing more damage

Short version:

- The presidency keeps being talked about because people either like to go out and create drama, or are too stupid to realize they dont have a chance in hell of winning, only adding to the drama in the process by trying to strengthen their campaign and doing so horrendously

I don't appreciate the series of "naysaying" and "rebuttals" given to Fire, since Fire is absolutely correct -- and, more importantly, all of us know it. Like Evanescent points out, arguing in favor of campaigning is a desperate attempt to justify drama. The "campaigning" and political maneuvering over such a worthless position is, at best, amusing.
