Full resolution: Economic decision theory should be adjusted to include higher-order preferences for non-normative purposes

I wanna get a short debate in, 4000 characters per round. WHO'S DOWN????

http://www.debate.org...

This paper outlines higher order preferences as a concept and goes into good detail. In short, they are preferences for preferences. So if someone is a drug addict but they would prefer not to be (an unwilling addict), then that means that they have a higher order preference, which would be to have the preference of a preference for abstention over drug use to the preference of drug use over abstention. http://www.sci.brooklyn.cuny.edu...

Would also be willing to do this as a live debate, though the technicality of how the word "preferences" is used may make that difficult to follow for a casual viewer.

Do you really believe that? Or not? If you believe it, you should man up and defend it in a debate. -RoyLatham

Does anyone other then you even know what the hell that means? You might have to go off site to get an opponent for that. The last time I went off site to find a specialist in some area to debate me, they were so offended by my topic I started getting death threats, but you should have better luck

I think my explanation near the bottom is pretty straightforward. The paper just goes more into the theory of it for whoever takes it, isn't even that long of a read.

Well how many people know what economic decision theory is, even if they take a few days to learn it, they probably won't know it well enough to debate whether the other new concept you mentioned at the bottom should be implemented or not. It involves learning a bunch of new things fast. An adventerous person might learn one new topic to debate it with you, but most people are going to be furtger behind than that. I was being a smart asss, but sometimes I have went to different forums to recruit opponents. Often times it is easier than finding a qualified opponent here.

I did seriously go to recruit members of madd to debate drunk driving with me and got nothing but threats from people because most. Of them have lost kids to drunk driving, but other than that one experience, recruiting opponents has worked pretty well for me. Go to an economics forum and gove it a shot
