Should something happen to debate.org tomorrow barring us from communication with one another, I wanna say, thanks for everything guys!

Yes, this is like the 2012 of debate.org. It might end, it might not. No one knows. As far as I can see from the new owners bio, he likes the traffic of sites and not the quality or user-community. All hes worried about is revenue, so it might just become a page like when you type "yaahooo.com" instead of "yahoo.com". Just nonsense and a lot of advertising.

If it does, we'll sign a petition. But honestly, if it does, idk why he would purchase a domain like this for 130k and then convert it to something worthless.

Who do you think the new owner is?

It's websitemania judging by the auction.

That is what was done with the site already when it was debate.com. Someone bought DDC and converted it to that type of site. If that is what was happening this time, Phil would just move it again and continue to wait for a buyer.

There must be some changes in the making, otherwise i cannot see how he (they) could make the return on the investment. I can't imagine their advertisers, of which most of us block, provide a great dividend.

Sadly it is. I did some background checking, making accounts and such and yeah. Its this hugggeeeee advert site that uses user traffic for revenue. There isnt one site liek our that they own.

This is a scenario in which the new buyer can alter DDO:

In order to make more revenue due to user traffic, because debates.org tracks presidential elections, he will alter the website to have nothing but advertisements in order to make more profit.

Similar Situation:
Original Website: http://www.forensicsonline.net... (Which is a website that promotes the NFL [National forensic league] and is a forum for all its members)
The Site used to make profit off people who type in the wrong url: http://forensicsonline.com...

Notice the new type of profit making in the second site.

The second scenario is the new owner wil recognize that daily traffic on DDO is around 25,000 DAILY and ensured. So, maybe he will realize in the long run that DDO is more beneficial.

Rather than drawing people through the strength of this URL, the user traffic on this site is generated through the personal interest of individual users.

Therefore, if the site was purchased by someone business savvy enough to afford it and see potential in its growth, then that person is likely savvy enough to realize that changing the nature of this site would be a mitigating factor.

There are no banners on this site. It doesn't contain a whole lot of colors, it comes with no popups, and it's nearly monochromatic. This website is a golden blank slate. More than likely, the people who bought this site will capitalize off of:

- All the space for new adverts.
- All the capacity to make this site infinitely more attractive.
- The fact that this site is generally demographically specific, making it much easier to selectively advertise.
- The fact that the people who now own the site has many of your personal phone numbers and information at their disposal (this is very valuable).
- The ability to bombard unregistered visitors with even more obnoxious advertisements as further incentive to register.

I'm sure there are things that I'm missing.

Debate.org is the sort of domain name that will be passed around until someone is intelligent enough to incite its potential. It conceivably can be comparable to Facebook.

Also, Usafkd --

Given that "debate.com" is not a more popular website that generates any revenue or user interest whatsoever, it makes more sense to make this the powerhouse website and buy that url and either fill it with ads or cause a redirect.

However, as I said, debates.org is the website running during the presidential elections and generates millions of views during those elections. So, to be honest, this is all specualtion but im just naming possibilities.

You really think that they'll destroy the potential of this site after paying hundreds of thousands of dollars because they might profit from it every four to eight years?!

Again, speculation. They might have some ulterior plan for DDO that we do not know of. They might just let the site continue as it is.

However, the two new potential owners, spliff (http://www.debate.org...) and WebsiteMania78, both intended to keep the site intact, until revenue went down.

Oh, I know, I know. I'm not being argumentative, I just don't find it likely that they'll buy this site purely for the domain name. They would have spent far less money buying "debate.com," given that it's currently open.

As for the bolded portion: if that was the intention, it wouldn't have been sold.
