Would anyone be interested in getting involved in a group dedicated to short, silly debates? Basically a conglomerate of debaters who want to engage in debates with 4 rounds and a character cap of 3000 for each debate. The first round would be procedurals, acceptances, all that good stuff, and then the rest of the debate would be actual arguing.

Examples-
http://www.debate.org...
http://www.debate.org...
http://www.debate.org...

The topics would be silly, light-hearted things such as Spaghetti is better than Macaroni or Pikachu could beat Megaman in a fight. Things which have equitable ground for both sides, but aren't going to have votes decided before the round even starts.

These wouldn't be troll debates where debaters worked to see who could make the dumbest argument or satirically unpack whatever problem they see with the debate community, but rather light-hearted debates on topics that aren't as intense or serious as some of the other debates on this site. I have nothing against those kind of debates, I just can't deal with them on an online platform - it's too difficult for me to take them seriously. I would rather focus on shorter, higher-quality debates on fun topics.

Membership in the SSDL (Short & Silly Debate League) would require that debaters regularly vote on other debates in the league, follow rules on round length and subject matter, and work to provide high-quality content in a short amount of characters.

I want to start this league for a few reasons,
1. I feel like I will be able to have better, more enjoyable debates this way rather than submitting open debates every time I want to start a new round.
2. Almost every time I go to vote on a debate in the massive voting thread, I get bored by the long-winded-ness and/or subject matter of those debates.
3. I feel Short & Silly debates would generally be easier, and more entertaining to read for a lot of people.

Anyway, if this is something you're interested in leave a comment. We can work out the particulars of the league, and talk organization here.

I want the topics decided before the debate, if this is the case, then I will accept.
I tend to fight any opinion, regardless of my agreement or disagreement to it. I believe to only fight opinions that you disagree with is a sign of a weak and rigid state of mind.

I think this is a good idea, especially if we are planning the debates out in a more organized context.
