It is that time of the year again--when we host an Official Regular tournament. Hopefully, this one is bigger, better, and more magical!

This tournament mostly has the regular rules... 8 people, in a randomized single-elimination bracket, which means there's three rounds. All debaters will be given 3 days to select a topic and begin their debate. If they fail to decide on a topic, a topic from the National Forensic League (aka National Speech and Debate Association) LD and PF databases will be selected and assigned to them. Sides will also be assigned. If a topic is assigned due to an expiration of the 3-day discussion period, debaters will be given an extra 24 hours to start their debates.

But there's a twist... you can select your own topics only in Round 1! In Round 2 and the finals, the topic is a randomized, evenly balanced one, which is unique, in an effort to help debaters in question learn stuff they might not have learned before, and debate what they might have never imagined themselves debating. So, for Round 1, you can decide your topics, but in Round 2 and the final, a topic will be assigned to you.

There's just one restriction imposed: the maximum voting period for a debate is 2 weeks. If you have a voting period of 3 days, it is your obligation to ensure that a vote is cast on your debate.

Also:

You need to either (a) have at least 10 non-forfeit, non-troll debates, or (b) you should have participated in more than one round of at least one Beginners' Tournament or Regular Tournament. If there is an application that meets NEITHER of these conditions, but you still wish to be in the tournament, PM me and I will consider you, but I will prioritize anyone that meets the conditions at hand.

Not really. Different people may want to participate in different kinds of tournaments, and moreover the more people who are doing high quality debating. Thus even if there is some harm to tournaments individually the net benefit to the site is greater.

I still support unofficial tournaments, but I was referring to myself, not other people. In my case, an unofficial tournament did stop me from signing up. Thats the evidence

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say.
