Assuming Bench wins, we are set to have conventions in January 2017. I, however, don't think this is the best set up.

Move conventions to a April/October event, and have separate referendums on form of DDO "government" (or lack thereof) preferred by the community on the January/July setup.

If this proposal is accepted, then we would have our first DDO convention in October - three months from now. Then, we don't have to wait for conventions only for it to be overrun with debate on the Presidency.

Then, after living with convention-style abolition for six months, we could hold referendums on what we want in the next election - a choice between Presidency, conventions, and nothing. The top two choices would then be put into a runoff a day or two later in order for there to be a site mandate on the issue.

Ultimately, I don't really want to see the first convention overrun with the Presidency - it would undermine its potential for effectiveness, and I think separating the two would be a positive for the system. Then, we can see what living under this would really be like.

This thread is ultimately for Bench (and maybe Max) to consider, but I'd welcome hearing other opinions on this.

2 Reasons is why I prefer to keep the original plan. Admittedly they are minor.

1 - I originally wanted it to be the same time as presidential elections to truly replace the presidency with a new system, and also because that time slot would fit nicely with Hall of Fame voting, which would take place a week or two later during the same months. With the HoF about to become a once-a year thing though, Its more acceptable to shift the dates of Convention since moving HoF with it would be easier as well (Compared to before)

2 - We've never really gone an extensive period of time without a presidency on this site. The original 6 month break from site governance is something I see as an experiment to see what all really changes if the presidency is eliminated. 3 months would also give us a window sure.

Really the dates for conventions were only set up that way out of simplicity. There isnt much of a reason I can come up with against moving them other than giving the site a break from all this stuff :P

Fvck breaks.

But in any seriousness, I understand the argument for 6 months from that perspective. But still, I think it would be a sh!tshow with the Presidency looming over it.

In the PM I said "earlier" and you said "I'm not that crafty" and "you see my ruse". Then I modified it in that thread to 2-3 months after the election and you called me an idiot, several times.

What about the associated words like " you're not very smart"? You said that quite frequently. So you can call harder an idiot or some other form of the word here, since it's the same idea, as you did with me, or show unnecessary personal bias for no reason.

Harder didnt try to butt into my thread with a sham campaign and a sham platform for their own self-promotion like you did. So no, I wont call 1harder and idiot since unlike you, he has not behaved like an idiot
