Ladies and Gentleman,

Greetings! We here at DDO Tea Time have an exciting announcement to make. Starting today, we will be expanding our organization to include a necessary component of staying informed - The News! While our empire was built on the foundation of Tabloid gossip and Interviews, we feel that delivering quality and current news on a weekly basis is the next step in our growing efforts to monopolize the information market here on Debate.org

So, without further ado, I present DDO Tea Time: News Edition!!

I. Congratulations to our New President - Wylted! Wait... Nvm

This summer has been one for the record books folks. In a surprise turn of events, Wylted won the Presidency with a nearly 30-vote lead. A gap that hasn't been seen in quite some time here during Presidential elections! What is even more fascinating is that he only publicly announced his run several hours before the voting process began. It was soon revealed that he had been partaking in some closed-door campaigning, which took full advantage of an earlier pledge made between the other candidates to do no such thing.

While these efforts received an incredible amount of scorn from some, it also received praise from others - thus the divide was created between those who attributed his win to either brilliance or misleading. After securing the win, talks began immediately over whether the Presidency should still be abolished or not. Fellow member, YYW, among others, led the charge towards the Referendum and in an unprecedented move initiated the referendum polling on his own accord. It was later revealed that Airmax did indeed allow this to be done, and once his blessing was given the referendum moved along at full-speed.

President Wylted did decide to step down from Office shortly after the Referendum outcome was clear, and in doing so has pledged to help bridge the divide in the user-base that, ironically, his own presidency helped create.

Let's not forget that Wylted did, in fact, pledge to eat cat food should he win, and he did indeed win. Regardless of him stepping down recently, I think a good start to proving his willingness to help the site would be to make good on his own promises and eat that cat-food on camera. We here at DDO Tea Time would fully support that effort, and will donate a bottle of water to help wash it down.

II. The Presidency is no more?!!

With the official vote tally now sitting at 34 votes to Abolish, and 13 to Keep - it seems the winner is starting to appear. What started as an abolitionist movement a few months ago with only minority support - has now garnered so much support that it appears it's actually going to happen. The voting process is still taking place as this report is posted but the advocacy for this change to the status quo is strong indeed.

This referendum is not quite what the abolitionists originally wanted though, and does leave a big question for us to now answer - What now? Under the original abolitionist campaign, Imabench had put forth a system of Conventions to replace the Presidency, but with his loss in the Presidential election his system of Conventions is now no-more as well. This leaves us in a precarious position - if we *are* going to abolish the Presidency, as the current voting trend shows, what will replace it? Will anything replace it at all? Who will rise as the voice of the community, or will this site fall further into oblivion?

As with all things, only time will tell.

III. A common message

In light of the recent Tornado storm that has engulfed the main forums section of DDO, many prominent members are coming out and calling for change in the approach to this site.

This recent call for help and change was instigated by yours truly, in a thread titled "For Serious Members Only" http://www.debate.org...

This was followed shortly by a similar post put forth by YYW titled "Seven Talking Points Regarding Change Here" http://www.debate.org...

The icing was put nicely on the cake by Danielle, who recently created another similar thread titled, "Damn DDO" http://www.debate.org...

While each of these threads have their own unique tone and approach to this common trend of a decrease in site quality, one thing remains between them all - the fact that this change rests solely on the members of DDO to both instigate and maintain. Let's raise the bar once more and come together in a unified effort to improve the overall quality of the discussions, debates, and contributions put forth by each and every one of us.

IV. The Revival of Fanfics and other independent programs

Members such as Adam_Godzilla, fire_wings, and HeavilyPanda, amongst others - have recently announced their intent to restart the fanfics movement that was once a cherished part of our community. Their efforts can be seen in the Entertainment sub-forums section, and, of course, we still have the fanfic sticky thread itself coming back to life in the misc. sub-forums section. Go check them out! Who knows, maybe you'll contribute with your own fanfic? Maybe we'll bring back the fanfic awards... the possibilities are endless.

http://www.debate.org...

We also recently saw the introduction of a brand-new mentoring program put forth by our fellow member 1harderthanyou. While the New Member Mentorship program is still running strong under Hayd's leadership, the introduction of a second program is fantastic. What's even more impressive is that this was initially a campaign move that has since become an independent effort regardless of him winning the Presidency or not. That is cool alright. Why? Because it proved what some of us have been saying this entire time - each member has the power, the right, and the ability to create their own programs and initiatives.

If you are striving to improve this site, in any way, we here at DDO Tea Time fully support your efforts and will gladly continue to highlight them for community awareness and participation. With that said, his program is still accepting sign-ups, so feel free to become a mentor today!

http://www.debate.org...

V. Tournaments!!

That's right folks, we've got some Tournaments taking place right now that are sure to be fun to watch unfold.

First up, we have our 'Summer Regular Tournament', hosted by tejretics, which is now beginning its first round phase of competition. With 8 participants, this looks to be a 3 round tournament, so there will be plenty of activity to watch! As with all tournaments, judges are always welcome to follow along and vote on these debates. To follow along, please visit: http://www.debate.org...

We also have the 'Unique Topics Tournament', hosted by Bsh1, which is also in its first round of competition. With 16 participants, this seems to be the tournament to watch as many eliminations and wins will be occurring. Who do you think will win? To follow along, please visit: http://www.debate.org...

***

That's it for this week folks. We do plan on highlighting specific threads, debates, votes, and efforts by fellow members in future editions as well but unfortunately ran out of space this time due to the incredible amount of news. We are confident that once things settle we'll have more space to do so.

We here at DDO Tea Time do hope you enjoyed our first News report!! This is going to be a weekly report, so until next time - take care!

At this point to oppose abolition is to support the further degradation of this site, and the people who have voted to keep are the same people who undermine this site's quality.

Assuming Wylted does the honorable thing and desists from his lying and manipulating members who are new or inexperienced the abolition is now a foregone conclusion

It is embarrassing that rather than sticking to the issues, people would choose to point fingers and accusing diverse groups of people of degrading the site, even when many members of the accused group are positive contributors. Actions like this are immature and inappropriate, and will not assist to heal the site after weeks of drama. Comments like yours are utterly useless in every way except as a means to vent your own contemptuous feelings towards others.

Want to debate it? I will destroy you with ease just like I did last time. Or maybe Mikal will debate it with you, in which case you will have about as much chance of winning the debate as Jeb Bush has of being the 2016 republican nominee.
