Greetings Ladies and Gentleman,

Welcome to the second volume of DDO Tea Time: News Edition!! This branch of DDO Tea Time focuses specifically on the news, and boy do we have lots to talk about! So without further ado, I present the latest and greatest in DDO happenings, enjoy :)

1) New Program Initiatives

As some of you may recall, there was recently a push from several established members calling for the community to come together in a unified effort to improve the quality of our site and community as a whole. I'm pleased to announce that in the last couple of weeks we've seen an awesome increase in user-created programs designed to assist both new and older members alike!

The first of which is the start of a Personal Outreach Program, created by 1harderthanyou: http://www.debate.org... The aim of this program is to help members who are having issues in their lives that trouble them to the point that they want help. This is an amazing initiative, the first of its kind, and we here at DDO Tea Time fully support these efforts! Please check out the link if you're interested in assisting the efforts of this program.

The second program making ground these last few weeks is the Full DDO Mentoring Program, created by a combined effort between 1harderthanyou and Mikal. While there is still a New Member Mentorship Program currently run by Hayd, the addition of this program will serve to provide even more means for newer members to become acquainted with our site while receiving help from more established members. Please check it out and sign-up if you'd like to be a part of this awesome program! http://www.debate.org...

I think the most important thing about these programs is the message that they are sending - we don't need a President to do great things for this site. We are all leaders in our own right and we each have the power to impact this site and created positive changes for everyone here. So if you have an idea, a program, or even a dream that would serve to improve this site, don't hesitate to put it out there!

2) Known Glitches

Recently we saw a spike in debate glitches. The most common being the forfeited round glitch. This glitch tends to occur when a debater forfeits a round. What happens is the timer glitches out and the debate is effectively paused for the time being. While many of us have seen this glitch and find it annoying, it's important to remember that it will pass with time. The glitch never seems to last longer than 3-5 days, so if you are experiencing this problem - practice patience - it too shall pass. If, for whatever reason, it causes a more serious issue, please don't hesitate to contact a moderator and we will do our best to correct any issues that have arisen from it.

3) Hall of Fame Voting

With the elections finally behind us, the next big election was soon to follow - the Hall of Fame voting. However, in a recent vote, the community elected to change the HOF process from a bi-annual event to an annual one. So what does this mean for you? It means that instead of the nomination process taking place in a few weeks, we will be pushing it back to January. So remember folks, if you desire to be in the HOF, now is the time to make a name for yourself! Do what you can to make this site the best place it can be, create quality content, help your fellow DDOians, and be the best that you can be! If you do all of these things, I surely expect to see you in the next HOF class come January.

4) WODC 2016

Well folks, it's that time again! We recently saw the return of Edeb8 creator, larztheloser, who came to announce that the World Online Debate Cup is about to start up for this year. This is a prestigious event that puts debaters from several debate sites up against one another to see which site is dominant. Will DDO reclaim the victory once more? Only time will tell!

If you are interested in participating in this tournament, please visit: http://www.debate.org...

Notable Debates this week

1) DEBATE 500: Business Discrimination http://www.debate.org... This debate is Lannan's 500th debate! With an opponent of such a high caliber, Danielle, we can say with surety that this debate is one of the best this week. Be sure to check it out, as it's now in the voting period!

2) The US should adopt a carbon tax http://www.debate.org... This debate is an excellent read and quite fascinating. With Lannan and Tejretics facing off in this, it's bound to be a great read. Definitely check this one out!

3) The Earth Is Not Overpopulated http://www.debate.org... This debate features a hot topic that is commonly discussed here. Is the Earth overpopulated or not?! Subutai is an incredibly strong debater, and with an opponent like fire_wings this is sure to be a great debate. Please check it out and share your own thoughts.

Notable Threads this week

1) What books are you reading right now? http://www.debate.org... Here we have a thread created by YYW asking a simple question - what are you currently reading? It's great seeing so many people excited by books in this age of computers, and with the lists given by members there is an unlimited supply of great book recommendations. Be sure to check it out. Who knows, perhaps you'll find a great new book to read!

2) NC voter ID law struck down http://www.debate.org... In this thread, our fellow member Thett3 brought up a recent court ruling that deemed the voter ID law unconstitutional because it disproportionately effected minorities. This topic has spawned an excellent discussion, so be sure to check it out and share your own thoughts on the matter!

3) Why the West Cannot Understand Islam http://www.debate.org... Skepsikyma is one of those members that we can always count on creating quality discussion content. In his latest thread he tackles the issue of the West and its understanding (or lack thereof) of Islam. This topic has spawned an excellent and thorough discussion that shouldn't be missed by anyone. So be sure to check it out!

The Weekly Shame

This week, the Shame award goes to the News sub-forum section. http://www.debate.org... The entire front page is literally spam, what an achievement! Due to this being the worst display of spam we've seen this week, we dub thee - the most shameful section of the site this week.

https://cdn.meme.am...

Aaaaaaand, that's it for this week folks! We here at DDO Tea Time hope you enjoyed our 2nd volume of the News Edition! I am personally so pleased to see all of these great initiatives taking place, and want to sincerely thank each and every one of you who actively try to improve the quality of our site and community, this is truly what it's all about :)

Be sure to tune in next week where we'll be covering the continued progress of the tournaments taking place here and shedding light on some more fantastic debates and threads! We are also planning on expanding the news to cover fantastic votes as well, but need to figure out this space constraint thing first...

Until next time, please take care and Godspeed in all of your efforts here!

The only reason that spam is still there is because airmax isn't currently available (and thus can't remove it), I informed him of them as quickly as I could.
