49 years ago today, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn was released by Pink Floyd - led then by Syd Barrett (the person in avatar for the week).

Since the popularity psychedelic rock was short thanks to acid casualties and politicians with their heads up their asses, and Pink Floyd shifted towards purely prog rock over time (their debut anniversary being what I'm making this week off of), the avatar week will be for psychedelic and prog rock acts.

I find the Pink Floyd albums really hard to rank in the top 5, but if you put a gun to my head, I'd probably say this at the current moment:

13. A Momentary Lapse of Reason
12. Atom Heart Mother
11. Ummagumma
10. The Division Bell
9. The Endless River
8. A Saucerful of Secrets
7. Meddle
6. The Final Cut (though it should just be considered a Roger Waters solo album)
5. Wish You Were Here
4. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
3. Animals
2. Dark Side of the Moon
1. The Wall

My ranking guide for Pink Floyd is this:

Top 5: Absolute classic - 10/10 for all 5 of them: hard to actually rank.
6: Really good, but not great - 8.5/10
7-8: Good - 7.5-8/10
9-10: Decent - 6.5-7/10
11-13: Bad - 3-5/10.

6. The Final Cut (though it should just be considered a Roger Waters solo album)
5. Wish You Were Here
4. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
3. Animals
2. Dark Side of the Moon
1. The Wall

Given how much you like Piper, I'm surprised you don't like Saucerful more. I'd personally put them neck and neck, although they're very different. And why is AHM so low? The AHM suite is one of PF's best songs, and Summer '68 and live versions of Fat Old Sun are pretty good as well.
I'm becoming less defined as days go by, fading away, and well you might say, I'm losing focus, kinda drifting into the abstract in terms of how I see myself.

My ranking is:

14. The Division Bell
13. The Endless River
12. The Wall
11. The Final Cut
10. Obscured by Clouds
9. Dark Side of the Moon

7. More
6. Ummagumma
5. Atom Heart Mother
4. Animals
3. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
2. A Saucerful of Secrets
1. Meddle

I really only actively dislike 14 and 15, and even then, both had good songs (e.g. Sorrow, Marooned, and High Hopes).

Too many options for me, so I just decided to go with a classic.
