It seems like DDO has been really quiet lately, more so than the usual summer lull, so I looked up the Alexa ranking of DDO:

http://www.alexa.com...

The ranking is tied to unique page views, though it is an imperfect metric. The ranking has plummeted since May. This may be a summar dip as the rankings turned the corner in September, but the ranking is still much lower than a year ago to date.

I also wonder if part of the rebound is cross traffic from a spike in google searches for "debate" due to the presidential election:

https://www.google.com...

If this is the case, the downward trend may continue as the election comes to a close.

I'll take a stab at being apocalyptic....is DDO dying?!?

Maybe its a good thing. Maybe Juggle will finally notice that one of their sites isn't making them money and they might finally fix DDO.

Or they'll just shut the site down when it stops making profit.

It died a long time ago. At this point, Max is simply using his black magic to resurrect it. Unfortunately, these spells eventually have to die away, and while they can be used a second time, it uses up a lot of magika, and we are unsure of Max's limits.

Juggle acquired the site as an investment. If the investment isn't performing well and there isn't a clear path to improving performance they will likely sell it.

I don't think site bugs are the reason DDO is dropping in popularity, I think the underlying model just isn't very profitable. There was a Reddit thread a few years ago where someone was looking to buy debate.org as an investment (or maybe it was launch a competing site? Can't quite remember) and the replies were very pessimistic for reasons that had nothing to do with site functionality.

Any idea what the plummet in visits was caused by?

No idea.

My understanding is that the opinion pages drive most of site traffic. I'm inclined to think a change in the opinion pages might be the cause.

I doubt attrition of regular forum members would cause such a substantial drop, but who knows.

Didn't the fall occur at around the same time the presidency was abolished?

Haha maybe.

I have a hard time imagining the presidency causing the drop. I would think only a small portion of DDO site visitors even know about the presidency

No, that was just a narrative pushed by F-16 who was physically incapable of living in a world without the DDO Presidency

Alexa Rating you provided: http://www.alexa.com...
Alexa rating from 2011: http://web.archive.org...
Alexa rating from 2012: http://web.archive.org...

The years for 2013 and 2014 are missing, but in 2015 the ratings were actually higher than where we are at now http://web.archive.org...

So while we are nowhere near 2011 and 2012 numbers, (by over 9000), we certainly are looking downhill rather than uphill

They won't shut it down. They won't earn anything from it other than killing the expenses in keeping DDO up.

They'll most likely sell it if they won't improve the site's functionality and I'll be happy if they did. I dont see how DDO could fvck up anymore so there's a big chance the new owner will try to fix and/or improve DDO. Buyers will buy DDO as an investment, so the worst thing that could happen to the site with a new owner is leaving the site at its current state.

Yeah I agree with XLAV. I find it far more likely that Juggle just sells DDO to someone rather then kill it off themselves. The last golden egg DDO could make for juggle will be the check someone writes to buy us from them.

I don't see why they can't just ad it, but not too heavily. Say every 10 posts in a thread stick a nice ad. They probably wouldn't get much but they would at least get something.
