So, Ballmer retires, MSFT stock shoots up 8% on the announcement. During his tenure over the past 13 years, MSFT has had a negative total return of 17%, dividends included.

Ballmer also happens to be the #2 largest shareholder in MSFT stock, and was there in the beginning as one of the first people Bill Gates tapped to help run and grow MSFT.

Is this a good change?

Absolutely. Steve Ballmer is partially responsible for Microsoft's gradual lagging behind other software/hardware giants.

Maybe now the little bit of Microsuck stock in my IRA will have a chance of returning to its pre-2000 value, LOL! I bought when it was down about 40% from the couple of years before thinking I was buying near the bottom. It hasn't gotten off that bottom, as far as I can tell, in the 13 years since.

Curse you Steve Ballmer!

You could say the same about Gates too though.
