The government should reduce the VAT rate to increase the recovery of the economy. The recovery of the economy is good but this would be the extra boost it needs. If they decrease VAT which at the moment is a staggering 20% people will have the confidence to buy new things. The point is people are going through hard economic times and they simply cannot afford this extra 20% decreasing it will allow the flow of money to increase.
Currently to help the economy the bank of England injects money into the economy which is funded by the government in some cases 3 billion pounds . This money comes from taxes like VAT so this is the money we will save by making the economy up and running again.

Retail fuels the economy. The current dramatic downturn in retail has been created largely by this Government"s attitude to tax. A fifth on top of services and goods is too much. Businesses are having to reduce prices to compensate for the VAT, leading to reduced profitability and increased failures.--------------------------

No, the VAT isn't the problem. The extra .01$ deduction doesn't really make much of a difference. We need to make consumers richer, most likely through raising wages.
How about NO elections?
