Just to be sure that there is no confusion in the future, I changed my views on political economy slightly. You may recall I took a long break from this website-well, let's just say I think I'm much more informed now, largely thanks to my Google+ addiction. Thanks to much, much more learning, arguments with capitalists, actually looking up definitions for a change, and finally realizing what exactly Marx and Lenin were talking about, I can say these things:

-I am a socialist who follows most of Lenin's interpretations of Marx's ideas
-I am not a communist, but I am considering becoming one
-I no longer believe that capitalism itself is responsible for unequal opportunity to attain wealth, but still believe in public ownership
-I realize now that Marx's criticisms were primarily not of capitalism in itself (partly thanks to a user on this site), but of the existing social class relations
-I realize now that communism entails no government (again, partly thanks to the same user).

Consider this my truce with capitalism, to an extent. I'm still a Marxist. Sorry if my views seemed irrational before (because they were, partly).
You can call me Mark if you like.

Just a fun thought experiment re public ownership

Lets just say you had a very successful business and someone came along and offered to buy it from you for the market price BUT you also would still get to keep around a third of all of its profits in perpetuity.

So you get all of your capital back AND ongoing income....would you sell the business?
Not my gumdrop buttons!
