I first noticed it on wikipidia at https://en.wikipedia.org... under 'Distribution of household income'. The average of 'mean number of earners' for household earning $175,000 - $199,999 is 2.2. Double checking with the census, https://en.wikipedia.org..., table H-12 confirms there are plenty of high earning homes with 3 or 4 earners.

Who are these extra earners? The possibilities I could think of:

1. The vast majority of teenagers in high income household have jobs.
2. The kids have taxable incomes from non-job related source.
3. Parents and grandparents living together is way more common than I think
4. Extended family living together on paper only, maybe for tax purposes
5. Some kinky sh*t

Thoughts on who these people are?

Almost certainly it would usually be young adults still living with their parents while in full time employment in the majority of cases.
