What proportion of the GDP should be controlled by the state? . Has anyone have any views or thoughts on the topic.

Answer: As much as is necessary to maintain the monopoly on violence (police, military, security forces), fund the courts and Congress, and social spending (education, welfare, health care) as mandated by necessity.

A brief look at government expenditure (http://www.heritage.org...) in various nations shows you that this limit often occurs at approximately 40% of GDP. Most notably, totalitarian North Korea is at 100%, "socialist" Canada at 41%, and the United States at 39%.
