The state of Illinois proposes the merger of many small schools throughout the state to help eliminate the large number of administrators, thus freeing up salary for more teachers. As a former teacher myself, it's hard to devalue the importance of administrators, but why some of their salaries are close to $200,000 annually as teachers are being laid off and classroom sizes swell toward 30, I simply cannot support. If teachers are on the chopping block for cuts, then administrators should be too. The price of one administrator usually equals close to 3 teacher's salaries, if not more.
