Apparently, because my parents were abusive and then kicked me out and there's no more contact with them and now I can't get their tax info for the FAFSA, my financial aid adviser said I can do what's called a Dependency Override or something. Basically, they'll just decide that I'm an independent student and I'll only provide my own info. Anyone have any experience with this?

I have no experience, but the process is described in this handbook: http://www.fsa4counselors.ed.gov...

It looks to me that the way to approach it is through the Financial Aid Administer at the college. The Administrator is supposed to guide you through the process.
