Do you REALLY have to have a solid education?

I believe that education is VERY important. However, I do not believe that if you do not graduate from school or go to college, then you are not a loser or a failure in life.

Centuries ago, education was optional. Now we have found so much knowledge that we think everyone should be educated or we're failures in life.

Education is not the most important thing in the world. Yes, being educated teaches us, but remember that the lessons (whether of life or in school) that are thrown at you are only 10% of your life. The other 90% percent is your reactions and attiude towards them.

Lou Holtz and Irving Berlin have a strong point.

State your opinions, whether positive, negative or neutral. I accept everyone's opinions.

And centuries ago you would die of infection from a small cut, or you would be hung for being a witch.

I am aware of that.

Right, and the main change that occurred between then and now was a widespread dissemination of knowledge. Virtually all advancements made in the course of human history (excluding those that were the result of pure luck) had a basis in human thought and reason.

In your post, you said that you "believe that education is VERY important", before saying that "we think everyone should be educated or we're failures in life." You're saying that knowledge is unimportant for some people (which can be shown to be blatantly false, just by looking at any drugged-up bum on the streets).

You claim that "the other 90% percent [of life] is your reactions and attiude towards the[ lessons learned in life]." You're ignoring the fact that choosing to do an action can only be done in context with what you already know, and that any action in line with what you know can only help you learn by prompting reactions from those around you (and learning from these things would qualify as part of the %10 of life you defined as being lessons). You're advocating nothing but stagnation.

What about those who are not smart enough and can't help it?

One of my best friends studies like a mother****** and she gets C's and D's.

If you know nothing about how your actions will affect the world around you, your decisions will be almost universally negative. The only way out of this is to claim that knowledge is more important than action, which would run counter to whatever you're trying to say in your post.

What about it? Would you rather she go live in a cave and pray to the sun? She HAS an education.

I meant when she studies so hard she never remembers. That's why she fails her tests.

I forgot to say: she actually gets C's, D's and F's.
