Today, I attended a seminar that involved presentations from Harvard, Duke, Stanford, Georgetown, and the University of Penn.

None of them, excluding Penn, stood out. I'm really considering attending the university if I can get it and receive a full ride. Does anyone have personal experience there or knowledge of the true environment in the area?

LOL! SAC-WACK is too good for Harvard and Stanford.

Sorry. You'll be lucky to get in, never mind get a full ride.

No, bro. What are you talking about? I think I have a better chance at Penn, and my fav city is Philadelphia.

Sorry. You'll be lucky to get in, never mind get a full ride. You never know. In my essay, I can bring up my childhood, emotions, etc., all my prior connections to the environment.

When I stated "stood out," I meant that Penn really connected with me. Bro, you really are a d-bag. You need to lighten up.

I'll bet you my bank savings that I will get into Penn. I'm not that dumb, man.

It almost comes off as a defense mechanism against the initial statement that his chances of being admitted to Penn (much less getting a full ride) were on the dismal side.

Just make sure to put a safety school on the list somewhere-- or take a look at community colleges, that was my backup plan and it's gotten me two years of cheap education and a transfer for the next two. "Not being dumb" does not guarantee you an Ivy. Hell, being perfectly studious, a slave to the community, and taking every extracurricular out there does not guarantee you an Ivy-- there are a lot of other schools it doesn't guarantee you either.

On a related note, I actually know a guy who went down to UPenn for electrical engineering after a term in my class. To be quite honest he didn't exactly seem all that bright, and his marks were generally pretty average. Granted I have no idea how he did on his SATs, but based on what I new of him, either he studied his @ss off or they were probably less than impressive.

It might be because i go to public school but out of everyone i know only one of my friends got into UPenn and she is the Valedictorian of my school with a 4.5GPA and a 2200 SAT score everyone else didnt even get into a IVY, again maybe its because all my friends are asian.

It is not easy to get into IVYs man your GPA must be the TOP thats the first thing they look at your SAT must be respectively high I dont think they give a fk about ur background or your extra curricular crap, if that was true i should have gotten into every college. I come from a bad family background, half of my cousins went to jail I was taught to steal at a young age, my grand parents all died, half my uncles and aunts died. I spent 3 years just volunteering every summer doing like full time job hours from like 8am to like 6pm at a christian church school. I teach composting and recycling to my school every quarter and I do the composting lunch duties 3 times a week for the ECO club and AP environmental science. Listen to Rahl get a back-up plan

i know one girl from my graduating class got into stanford with a slightly lower gpa, slightly higher SAT, and all kinds of weird extracurriculars (she traveled to peru to volunteer with the underprivileged one summer lol...)

and i know two girls who got into harvard, both had perfect SAT scores... so...

^^that was like 6 years ago though. shyte. *feels old*

anyways, what kind of grades do you have, SAC8, that you expect a full ride? or are you a football hero....?
evidently i only come to ddo to avoid doing homework...

They care about background, it's just that you need to be either rich or poor to have a real chance-- there's almost nothing in between :) And you need extracurriculars to have a chance.

There's pretty much nothing that guarantees getting in.
