Agreed.

Do you advocate any type of security measures at school? (Security patrol, hall monitors, etc.?)

His issue is the requirement, not their placement.

I figured as such. However, I'd like to hear the opinions of a few other people of different ideologies on this site as well.

I think that cameras in bathrooms is illegal. And I think its wrong. I can see how it might be useful in classrooms, but its not really worth it. Hallways sure I guess.

i reckon cameras in classrooms is a good idea. might encourage some to actually do something, or it'd at least keep them quiet for the ones who don't need encouragement.

They have a live stream to the internet and charge 'concerned parents' to watch, thus reducing the tax burden of public education.
I am voting for Innomen because of his intelligence, common sense, humility and the fact that Juggle appears to listen to him. Any other Presidential style would have a large sub-section of the site up in arms. If I was President I would destroy the site though elitism, others would let it run riot. Innomen represents a middle way that works, neither draconian nor anarchic and that is the only way things can work. Plus he does it all without ego trips.

Sounds like a violation of privacy.

probably wouldn't make much money either given that school hours generally overlap with normal working hours... it'd probably just cost taxpayers a fortune.

In this day and age it could be quite cheap, it could be run on a central website so that 'concerned parents' could monitor multiple schools at once, depends how far their credit extends.

You could live stream and also record the best bits. Webcams and websites are dirt cheap, subscription fees high, that means profit.

Not to mention the 'concerned parents' who live in other countries.

Placing camera's in bathrooms would violate people's right of privacy, so, no. I think camera's can be placed in common areas, like hallways and maybe in classrooms.

My school doesn't have them in the bathrooms....yet. They have them around the school, in the hallways and in most rooms.

Yes, that is good.

I understand cameras catch abusive teachers out, but if a teacher does something stupid and 25/25 students confirm it, you can guarantee it probably happened.

If I knew webcams were in the class room and someone could watch them, I certainly wouldn't voice my opinions most of the time. The confidentially of "What happens in the classroom, stays there" generally applies unless someone does something really d1ckish.

Besides, the cost to put cameras in every school would be pretty high, as well as the maintenance involved.

Usually, school cameras aren't watched at all, and their footage is only retrieved for purposes of evidence after an accusation has been made.

I'm not initially supportive, but I can see the uses. Teacher abuse, student abuse, even parent abuse - all these things can, do, and will occur in the classroom. If, maybe, there was specific guidelines to when it could be reviewed, and if it was brought to the PTA, or whatever body that's at least accountable if anything goes wrong, I could see it being more positive than negative.
