No. It used to be a method to start the breath cycle occurring (spank) and clear mucus from airways. A towel rub is used these days and if required, suction.

But this opens up the question:

How do they get the babies to cry? Just wait?

Crying = breath circulation (just more forceful). Towel rub induces the same response. The important thing is inducing the first breath, not the force of it. After the infant starts breathing, the rest will follow.

Babies don't have much means of communicating apart from crying. Although I've never actually tried to make one cry (that's just mean lol), I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult and pinching wouldn't be necessary.

If your into film and stuff, you would be surprised about alot of things that go into making a movie.

The pinching method actually hasn't been used for a while although it USED to be common place. Granted you also used to have to have twins if you wanted ONE baby on a show as one baby could not get to much air time, but that has somewhat faded away.

How does one go about learning anything? Generally in an active manner. :P
