I got a letter saying I was not accepted into my school's National Honor Society.

I'm ranked 17th in my class and I have a 4.2 GPA, and yet all it seems they care about are what Extra Curricular Activities you've done, and I've done very few. Excuse me but I like to focus on my academics, not some little after school club.

I think my admissions essay really did me in though. I basically said that I wanted to be in the NHS out of my own self interest, and that being in such a club would look good on my college admissions applications. I went on to say that the majority of the members probably share my sentiment and are lying if they say otherwise, and that I didn't want to be a part of the group if I had to lie about my intentions just to get in.

Anyone here in the National Honors Society?

LOL.... it is always tempting to show the system what is really going on. To be honest. But guess what. the system loves the delusion.

It doesn't really matter, as the name suggests, all it is is "honor". I don't think it serves any purpose. I was in it, until I didn't do community service or something like that and they took the "honor" away from me.

It's like: "good job, we'd like to honor you... now get to work!"

Perhaps you should be a little less riotous.

No, but I'm going to apply this year.

It's a game John. You have-tuh understand that. Sure it's bullsh*t, but just play it - do it - and you'll do fine.

I would not want to join a group that required me to avowedly damn my own existence, stating it's only value is as a slave to the community.

Yeah, telling the truth in an essay is almost always a bad idea. My English teacher basically crucified me a few weeks back when I wrote an essay about how bullcrap her class was. Apparently I was being "facetious."

really LR? When i did my high school's "Culminating exhibition," I made sure to use the introduction and conclusion to criticize the institution of culminating exhibitions, and I did fine... then again they kind of expected it from me :D.

I'm going to start an Anime club.

I got all the forms I need and I have a teacher sponsor and 15 people saying they'll be in it.

Starting a club will probably look better that being a regular member in the NHS

Upon hearing the existence of it in the daily bulletin, my friend put it best. "Dude. How ghey."

I agree. But the best colleges reject smart people with good GPA like valedictorians. They mainly look at the degree of extra curricular activities before GPA and SAT scores.

I'm going to make sure it's not a group for the fat greasy kids that never wash their hair and wear a Naruto Headband.

"I'm ranked 17th in my class and I have a 4.2 GPA..."

How do you get a 4.2 GPA?????
If you've cheated the system I need to know how.
Cause where I'm at, the highest is a 4.0 and there is no surpassing that.

Honors and teh AP classes. I have a 4.14 currently, but I'll raise it to 4.3-ish by the end of the year.

Phew.

Well, that was a lot of work.

I have all the official documents for my club created, including a Constitution with ten articles, containing election rules, separation of official powers, official duties, by-laws, and a bunch of other stuff.

Flyers, a library system to check out digital media, an official website, member information forms, and permissions slips.

Surely if I present all this for approval it'll go through.

I am intrigued. linky please.

Sorry, right now it's only on my hard drive. I plan on buying a domain with hosting when the idea becomes a little more official.

I'll get you a link right when it's up though.

Odds are the domain will be otakujake.com

*cringes*. Tell me you aren't using frontpage or some other WYSIWYG editor.

Tables are terrible. Ahhh. *cringes more*

Learn to use divs in combination with css. And then, start using php includes to set up the foundation of your site. In the long run, it will save you a lot of time and energy. Here is your web design bible from now on: http://w3schools.com...

Not to nitpick, but the "Otaku Jake Anime Society" header could stand out just a little more. Otherwise, the colors are okay for now.

But seriously, avoid tables at all costs. They should only be used to display tabular data.

For all web design, use divs/css.

Here's my mock test page along with its css just to give you an idea:

(The pics/colors are bad; I know. It was just a test.)

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know.

I'm using Dreamweaver CS3, so I have to power to do more advanced things.

That's just temporary, I plan to a complete redesign later. I just need something to present on Monday when I go for approval.
