In the back to school run, I need to pick up stationary. What is the best method of keeping study notes?

Write them in Word or something similar, and if you do not have it, install OpenOffice. Make sure you have the note files a safe place, and make sure you have some sort of an external back-up device, such as a USB device, so that you can keep the notes safe even if the computer gets broken or hacked.

....That's actually much better than writing them down on paper.

I will buy a new laptop soon and I will have to use it in high school every day. Are you allowed to use a laptop in your classroom? If yes, then buy a laptop or take one if you already have it and write the notes on it. It is easier overall and much simpler. The computer can record the blackboard content or the entire class. If you do experiments, you can take images and upload them immediately on your computer.

We're not allowed laptops in school.

You are in high school? I am glad that I am about to start in one that makes much use of laptops.

Are you allowed to use any other digital devices?

well if ur just taking notes, i've found that the easiest way by far, is to get a notebook for each class.

a laptop is a good idea, but a lot of schools don't like it (mine included), so i'm stuck with paper and pencil.

Also, by hearing it (while recording it) and then hearing it again (playing the recording later) and by writing the information down, you are reinforcing it not only multiple times but, with a lack of a better way to term this, with multiple "senses"

I take notes in a variety of capacities I usually take everything down in Notepad and use HTML to format it.

Don't use a computer, even if you are allowed to. It annoys the teacher, who thinks you are obsessing with a computer rather than paying attention. That is because you probably *are*obsessing with a computer rather than paying attention.

If there are, say five hours of lectures in a day and you managed to record them, that's way over five hours a days of transcribing. That's ridiculous.

Use a bound notebook that has permanent pages, not a loose leaf. Either keep a separate notebook for each subject, or maybe start a separate suject in the middle of a book. Don't interleave subjects. For science and math, you might try using a notebook that has graph paper pages. The graph paper helps making neat sketches and equations. Use a pen with dark inkso you can read your notes easily later on.

Organize the notes by subject. Use a symbol like an asterisk in front of a note on something that seems especially important. Use another symbol, like a small square, in front of something that you don't understand or which you would like to follow up on with questions. Have the text open if it is practical to do so, and write the page numbers of the relevant text next to the notes. Highlight things in the lecture that are not covered in the text, because they are likely to be important. Be sure to write down key phrase that are used repeatedly in the lecture.

you'd honestly be surprised how much you'd make for them when it comes down to crunch time.

Good point. I got $20 for each person I gave a 5 pages of notes that I wrote then typed in my 7th grade science class (ps the notes where on the board and we had the whole class hour to copy them. I typed them cause ppl were lazy and my handwriting sucks so they couldn't read it and the teacher would know it was mine when it was time to turn them in.)

Not practical for everybody. I would record it (if recording devices are allowed, they haven't been in any of my schools, laptops only in certain classes. We had to use one in my biology class last year cause we had to do a debate about a random topic so had to get info a week in advance but that was the only time I was allowed one in a non computers class)

I find that using a notebook for each subject try to limit one page per day/lesson (whichever works better for you) and write key phrases that are bound to spark some memory. Also when the teacher is talking it helps if you make mental jokes or observe what others are doing. It will help that area of the day stick out to you.
