I'm going to invoke Sturgeon's law here and say that 90% of all genres is sh!t. Pop has some pretty decent stuff, but a huge amount of steaming dog turd too.

Yes, Pop seems to get an undeserved bad rep. Many people hate on it simply because it's popular, but it's actually a great form of music to dance to and its catchy melodies give the song some replay value.

Here's some good stuff:
"We must raise the standard of the Old, free, decentralized, and strictly limited Republic."
-- Murray Rothbard

"The worst thing that can happen to a good cause is, not to be skillfully attacked, but to be ineptly defended."
-- Frederic Bastiat

Most love songs make me want to puke. THAT type of love is probably the most over glorified mental illness in America. Most pop music seems to be made of that crap.

Most pop music is like aural cottage cheese to me. Always has been, always will be.

I am a stylistic cliche fetishist. I like different types of music for stylistic cliches. Otherwise, I'm more into art music rather than mass produced kind of stuff.

Course, I still get in the mood for some good old Rock and Blues. I don't believe there is a point in getting pretentious over vibrating air molecules. It is all entirely down to subjective taste when you get right down to it.

Well i guess the Beatles are sh!t then

You make a valid point, though given two of the Beatles are dead and they've been broken up for like 40 years, they can't hardly count as pop(ular) any more.

They've become classic rock.

Furthermore, they were an exception to the rule. I like some popular artists. I think most people are thinking about auto-tuned shyat when you speak of pop.

Pop as a genre has evolved beyond just what is popular.

There is popular music and then there is pop music. The former is what you describe, the latter is a type of sound, a genre like any other. Pop music doesn't have to be popular.

Bullsh!t, all their early stuff is very rocky, even if the songs are about love.

its all about the definition. From wikipedia;
Hatch and Millward define pop music as "a body of music which is distinguishable from popular, jazz and folk musics". Although pop music is often seen as oriented towards the singles charts it is not the sum of all chart music, which has always contained songs from a variety of sources, including classical, jazz, rock, and novelty songs, while pop music as a genre is usually seen as existing and developing separately. Thus "pop music" may be used to describe a distinct genre, aimed at a youth market, often characterized as a softer alternative to rock and roll.
If you don't accept the definition, yay for you, but it is difficult and to a certain extent pointless to debate what an accurate definition of a word is.
