I like him more for the Foo Fighters than for his drumming, although he was great for Nirvana.

Yea I'm on the same boat with you on that one. He did wonders with Nirvana.

You named two of my favorites, kudos. I'll throw some names out there, too:

Obviously, Neil Peart (Rush);

Vinnie Paul (formerly of Pantera and Damage Plan);

Carter Beauford (Dave Matthews Band);

Matt Sorum (The Clash, Guns 'n Roses, Velvet Revolver);

and Matt Cameron (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam).

(I limited my choices to current, living drummers.)

Phil Collins.

Get caught in ticking traps
And start to dream of somewhere
To relax their restless flight
Somewhere out of a memory of lighted streets on quiet nights..."

Solid choices.

I would add two jazz drummers, one deceased and one living: Buddy Rich and Dave Weckl.

I must agree with Wall that as drummers of that genre it's hard to beat Weckl. Buddy Rich was way ahead of his time. Not many "young in's" know it but Buddy was first to do the rotating drum set solo , not Tommy Lee,though Tommy took it to another level.

Ringo Starr. The only reason why he isn't recognized as one of the best drummers is because he is constantly overshadowed by his band members' talent.

A close second would be Ginger Baker of Cream and Blind Faith. His drumming really made their songs come alive.

You do realize the Beatles all talked sh!t about each other? I mean, I love John, but it's not like his word is final. John and Paul both underestimated George, who turned out to be a fantastic song writer. In fact, George had the most extensive solo career out of all of them.
