I just saw a commercial, and I have to say; what BS.

Is it just me, or is major cinema now becoming all about exaggerated special effects and absolutely impossible, and almost stupid situations (Day After Tomorrow is the best example)?

Anyone else have some opinions on it?

I agree with Volkov entirely. I'm not going to waste my money on that crap. The premise itself is stupid, the acting looks bad, and on top of that, I can't sit through those "special effects" shown in the preview for more than 2 minutes without gagging. I dunno about you, but special effects are usually one of the last things I think about when determining what a "good" movie is.

I just saw it tonight. It was pretty good actually. The special effects were stunning, absolutely jaw-dropping. "Jaw-dropping" is not a cliche either, my jaw actually did drop during multiple scenes. The result was predictable and obviously some parts were unrealistic, but I'd give 2012 a good grade. B+ maybe.

I almost saw it with the geese bros, but the ladies in front of us in the ticket line bought the last tickets...

Should've mugged 'em. What'd you see instead?

I've never seen Startrek, the movie or the show, haha.

Just another in a long line of special effects disaster before narrative movies.

Sure this movie had its high points, but overall it generally wasn't that good. Not to mention, scientifically there were alot of things wrong with it. It's just one of those movies that has to rely on special effects to attract an audience.

My mom wanted to see this, but I didn't. We saw Fantastic Mr. Fox instead.

I quite liked Day After Tomorrow, but I didn't take it too seriously. I also didn't like how only the Northern Hemisphere was affected but they were talking about it being the end of humanity itself. There are a few people down here too, ya know!

2012 actually surprised me. There was good acting in it, which made up for some of the unrealistic effects. But once you get over that, you should be able to enjoy it.
I can't defy gravity (I'm actually quite clumsy), but I can defy the norm. Try to stand out.
