When we all begin to ponder Christmas presents. I have actually no idea what to get my family. Anyone else in a similar position.

Well it depends on how much money you have. I for one have very little money, so i guess my christmas present to them will be my undying love.

I saw in a catalogue the other day that for $35 AUD, you can get a custom calendar made up with 12 of your own photos as the pics for each month. I'm thinking that for my mother, with photos of things special to her. I think she'd like that.

Perhaps you could do something similar for your wife comon? Chicks love stuff like that, and you've got no shortage of great pics of the family to use.

As for the rest of my family: My dad, probably something to do with golf. My brothers probably a bottle of booze each. My girlfriend... I have no idea at this stage. Probably jewelry or something.

Well, this November 26th I shall find out what they want and do my best to match it. However, having a rough and patchy relationship with my family I'd have to say I am not quite sure what to get them as we only talk on Holidays.

Close, but not quite. It's No Other People's Holidays. I resent having to celebrate holidays created by somebody else, so I just create my own. Freedom FTW.

We all have freedom... most of us just use that freedom to celebrate normal holidays.

So which holidays have you invented? Are they as win as the present-getting, booze-drinking, bulk-food-eating, midday-napping Christmas?

I like this idea, but small question. If you don't celebrate "gift giving holidays" is it ok to receive gifts?

I celebrate my holidays whenever I want, and in whatever way I want. So it largely depends upon the circumstance and how I feel.

Just because some other tradition established the holiday doesn't give any logical reason to resent its celebration; besides, just establishing your own arbitrary "holiday" is hardly anything to celebrate if not shared by other people.

Freedom FTL.

Greatest present of all time.

Gift certificates!

Theyre like real money, except they are worse. You can only use them at a specific location, and they expire! Its such a goddamn ripoff, every time i get a gift certificate i feel as though i should punch the person who gave me it so that they will give me money instead.

Gift certificates give the illusion of thoughtfulness. Well, at least one level up from giving actual money XD

Lies.

Would you trade in all your money in for money that would expire in a year? or worse, money that would expire in a year, and can only be used at one department store?

In HS I used to get a lot of gift certificates for the MALL in general; it could be used at any store there. I agree that the time limits are stupid, but I think the point of them is to assure your friends and fam that you're using the money to buy something instead of using it on pot, booze or cigarettes... or something. I dunno. Also, they now have those gift certificate type of credit cards where you could use them anywhere (including restaurants and stuff like that). However I think money in general is also a cool gift, because sometimes it helps to pay for all of the gifts that YOU bought people. Lol I'm really generous and don't think that I've ever actually made money on Christmas; if I receive any presents from family, it's usually money and doesn't come close to compensating what I spent on others, so. In sall fairness, I don't really ever buy gifts for my fam and instead spend ALL my money on girlfriends. This year, I'm dating a girl who doesn't celebrate Christmas :D :D :D FTW! I actually want to avoid my family (and wish I could) over the holidays because the whole gift exchanging thing with them (extended family) just makes me really uncomfortable. I hate that. Holidays are supposed to be fun - not stressful >.<

I think the wife and I are going to chip in and buy ourselves a joint present of a PS3 and some games this year. I've also asked for pot brownies o.O
