This is me jamming on my Djembe.

Just wondering if anyone else on here plays/owns a djembe, or any other exotic instruments?

That was really cool! Half way through I realized I was pretty much hypnotized and hadn't blinked for a while. I bet the ladies love it.

Un petit peu. I grew up in New Brunswick and took it first year in Uni but I can't have a proper conversation (I can read it better than I can speak it for sure haha). Cependant, je veux pratiquer!!

The Ontario system sucks though. People take French from Grade 4 to Grade 9 without ever actually knowing how to speak it. And it's not uncommon to have a French teacher who actually can't speak it. I knew more French when I was in the second grade in New Brunswick than I do now :/

Thanks! You pretty much hypnotizes yourself when you play, too. My brain just seems to turn off and my hands just do what they do.

I have a smaller one that I used in a dance show a few months back, and I got some pretty positive female feedback from it ;) (I have a girlfriend though, so I had to break a few hearts XDDDDD)

C'est tellement vrai.

I plan on taking a university-level French class next year and hopefully learn enough to actually carry a conversation.

I took the most basic French course and they began with the assumption that you had a working knowledge of the language (nouns and stuff). All I can say is the Ontario school system failed me :p

I know exactly what you mean! I grew up from 6-12 in a small town that did a 50/50 school program. The first half of the day, all classes were in English. The second half of the day, all classes were in French. When I moved to the big city, at age 12, I could speak better french than my french teacher. I ended up forgetting most of it, because I never used it to any decent degree. I can't even hold up a conversation in french anymore, like I could at 12.

Epsilon: There are so many stories where some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day, and because of their sacrifice, the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everybody lives happily ever after. But the hero... never gets to see that ending. They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. They'll never know if the day was really saved. In the end, they just have to have faith.

Yeah it got me too. Do you play any other exotic instruments? I don't but I've always wanted to learn to play a didgeridoo.

Yes. You need to be able to circle-breath, which makes it probably the most un-intuitive instrument ever made.
